Summer of Cricket thread

but can only bowl a few overs.
At this time DC. Given Green has recently recovered from major back surgery I believe CA is still managing his work load. For mine he has the makings of a strike bowler if he wants to go that way, open the attack and bat #5, #6 or even #7 similar to our last genuine all rounder Keith Miller.

Can someone tell me if the forum has a Christmas thread as I am interested in posting a virtual Christmas Party thread. You think people will go for it. I'll give it a crack 🎅

I go along with that then hand Ussie a Sydney swan song given the series has now been decided.
My notion to appreciate recently retired Test stalwarts, is to assemble the likes of Warner, Usman ( just have him play Shield whilst trying to trial new, younger blood, possibly recalling him later), Josh H ( if he can't recover from injury), paraded around Sydney or Melb before a Test in a car, to gain appreciation from Aus fans for their stellar Test careers.

Not give them the send off they want at the time of their choosing. Pro sport doesn't work like that. Team requirements and building for the future are paramount.

Great idea, but no I wouldn't be interested as I do this off forum.

I'd debate that. I rate Green one of the games best gully fielders. Slugs best work has been in the slips in shield, yet to see him slipping in Tests. Correct on their respective ceilings and Green has yet to reach his top. I'd like for Green to play a year in county cricket instead of chasing IPL millions.
Webster is a specialist slipper. Ponting claims Slug has the best hands in Aus, although Smith and Labu have been good in the slips.

Green is superb at gully.

Do you honestly think Websters best is better than Greens. Admittedly slug has had a good start to Tests but understandable as he has played over a decade of first class cricket.
IMO Webster is more reilable and consistent and the fact that he can bowl lots of tight overs covers a lot of bases.

Green's best is definately better than Webster's best, but Green is patchy and inconsistent. I think Green will come good, and may play a role similar to Stokes in future, i just wonder how to get there,

Perhaps there is room for both in the side and that will improve the fielding.

Adelaide would have been the ideal game to play Webster and perhaps 2 spinners will be handy in Sydney.

Melboure might offer more assitance to pace bowlers and Green might be more handy.

If a wicket has swing and seam sometimes an accurate bowler can be effective. Jimmy Anderson was pretty slow at the end of his career.

If will be funny if the poms bowl 140+ and we beat them with 120-130 swing and seam.

So far we haven't had a pitch with a lot of swing and seam or reverse swing. Inconsistent bounce and lots of bounce has been the main threat.

Good post, HD.

At the Presentation Ceremony Ben Stokes told Isa Guha that Australia ''executed things more consistently than us''. That is a massive understatement Stokes. Australia were more clinical, smarter, ruthless and better tactically in all the important moments of each Test. Just when your guys sensed the ascendancy our guys came back with a killer blow such as a vital partnership or a swag of wickets or your guys threw away that ascendancy with a brain dead shot from a form of aggressive batting instigated by your coach because that is the way he played his Test cricket. England will now have to live with the fact that they have not beaten us on Aussie soil since 1990/91. That is 10 consecutive series over more than a generation.
Richie, I agree what you think on his comments but he reacted like any losing Capt being interviewed post flogging - even in football a Capt is never going to admit you were outplayed out smarted and that members of your team absolutely let each other down.
I could tell all he wanted to do was talk up the remaining 2 dead rubbers they got to bounce back and show who they are - we shall see.

It was 2010/2011 Rich. That was England's first and last series win over us since the 1986/87 series.

Todd Murphy also named in the Australian squad for the Boxing Day Test along with Jhye Richardson as part of two changes made to the squad.
I feel like Rocky should have the nod over Murph ATM.

Murph bowls more quickly through the air than Lyon or Rocky.

Rocky has bowled well on the WACA and Bellerive grounds - both giving little assistance to spinners.

Plus Rocky has taken 20 Shield wickets to Murph’s 10 this season.

Richardson is a terrific bowler - who is injury prone. Again Aus needs Webster to bowl back up pace to lighten Richardson’s workload.
