If my Intel is correct the last football tournament south Korea and Japan held was the 2002 world cup?

How is it possible they haven't held anything since then?

For context we had Asian cup 2015 women's world cup 2022 and women's Asian cup next year

Yeah it's sad. As far as I know they haven't even kicked up a stink about it, just rolling over and accepting it all, tournament after tournament.

Saudi Arabia have been bidding for and winning hosting rights to most major tournaments, save for the men's Asian Cup in 2015, the Women's World Cup co-hosted with New Zealand in 2023 and next year's Women's Asian Cup, but South Korea have submitted an expression of interest to host the Asian Cup in 2031.

South Korea hosted the U17 World Cup in 2007, but you're right, they haven't hosted much in a while. When you look at the U17 WC for example, Qatar have hosted the last 4. FIFA are clearly following the money and I think SK and Japan probably look at it and think that's it's not worth investing all that money in going for events that they are not going to win the rights to.

Japan withdrew from the 2022 WC bid, and South Korea were also bidding, but we know what happened there, and since then FIFA have been all about the money, so haven't bothered to bid for anything. Tokyo did have the Olympics.
