Sunshine Coast for A-League?

Sounds pretty normal to me. Until there is a Sunshine Coast team, it kind of is their turf.

In the same way that Sydney FC played some pre-season matches in Western Sydney before WSW came along.

I wouldn’t expect anything different tbh.
So what happens to the 7K Roar fans when a Sunshine Coast team is started. do they change their support to the new team?

I guess what Im asking is, whats in it for Roar then? Establishing a "target franchise area" for a rival to swoop in and poach the customers?

I'd probably switch.

Bwah ha ha ha!

Makes sense to play where there is extra interest for the benefit to football, Queensland football, and to a smaller extent the Roar if we get some Roar stars in the future based on travelling there. Fans of the Roar don't have to live in Brisbane either so we might pinch a few by getting in early.

Personally, I would love our visits there to foster a good crowd and a decent rivalry off the back of it. Happy to foster football in the region whether it is our benefit (higher profile in the region and the like) or just to make SEQ football stronger in general.

SCIMB just looks wrong, makes you sound like a financial services company out of Albany or Minnesota somewhere . :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: .......

I suspect the majority of those who might attend the odd Roar game at the Sunny Coast (if any more happen) would not be ongoing Roar fans anyway. What's in it for Roar then? I would hope they are doing their moral duty of giving the opportunity to more Queenslanders to watch top flight (no need to comment on this term ;) ) Australian football live. In reality I suspect that it as much a case of an appropriate ground being available for a pre-season match with the bonus of getting a few more paying spectators than they would at a Brisbane suburban ground.

im guessing the theory is that while there is no team there they get 1 good crowd a season since it is a once off and probably cheaper costs

Then they have less games at home so there is more demand due to more scarcity driving averages slightly up

Both fair points.... It has always been a bit of a foreign idea to me, play a game in a regional area.... attract a crowd... then expect that that area is ripe for a franchise....

I get Im not the target market, just wanting to get your perspectives....

Maybe similar to Tasmania for AFL, sending St Kilda, Hawthorn and North Melbourne there for decades to keep the place in touch with the league, gathering members and selling merchandise. Once they have a team of their own, most would abandon those clubs for Tassie. They play the long game... maybe they were inspired by the Japan's 100 year plan 😅

The Mariners did it / do it a bit with Canberra - at the behest of the FFA. Not really well received by the crowd but a lot of good contacts made there. Tom Rogic was being looked after by Ron Smith on CCM's behalf and Dylan Peraic-Cullen was picked up from there about 3 years ago. There have been others but they have slipped my mind.
