WSW got there first win of the season and did it comfortably. Staj made the right choice.
What a player has done at previous clubs is completely irrelevant. At the end of the day WSW fans want to see their club win (especially at home). Nobody cares who scores the goals as long as it's for your team.

can't agree someguyfc thats ludicrous.
They played a young very ordinary Jets and you can't start up with a player with that much pedigree/ready to play and let him get some runs on his legs.
You got to be kidding.
Same would apply to Costa at SFC IF Talay didn't play him you'd question WTF.
As for the comments about the high intensity FFS - he's played against far far better proven thouroughbreds than this lot.
He sure couldn't out pace them but reading/positioning/touch/distribution would do it with his eyes shut !
Anyway their loss not using a weapon at your disposal.

Not saying you can't question it, of course you can. Would I have started Mata? Absolutely. But I'm not the coach of the Wanderers.
I'm just saying in this particular instance it appears as though Staj made the right choice as he got a very good result.

yer sure get your point.
Like I said Jets certainly not a team your gonna be on the back foot for 90mins IF Staj has watched their previous games that he would have.
Sure will have a go here and there, put in a specky goal now and then but they are a opponent that can be managed considering WSW squad.
All ok in hindsight he's satisfied but he is holding back a class player who needs match fitness its not good management.
Someone else mentioned he's not that good, I tend to agree to date.

I'll grant it was strange bringing Mata on at 84 mins. If they are going to wait that long, why bother at all, throw a kid on. WSW were up 3-0 after 55 mins. They could have brought him on at 60mins and the end result would have been the same (or better).
Part of me always wonders in these situations if they are hiding a minor injury. They don't want to drop him completely as it might effect ticket sales to a home game, but also don't want to aggravate an injury.

yer who knows the truth but Staj and Mata.
I reckon its a joke putting him that late, in his boots I wouldn't have even got off the pines.

Why the fuck should a coach "build his team around" some guy who has barely played for the past 18 months?

I doubt Staj wanted this guy here but the suits wanted some sort of name. Great choice.

Absolutely. Anyone who doubts this should hop online and check Mata's playing record over the past 3 years. There are good (or not good) reasons why an Australian club can afford him.

The same with Costa at SFC. Like it or not, the A League is now a competition of last resort for players seeking to milk the last drops from past reputations.

Personally, I had hoped our clubs had gone beyond the Mata/Costa dalliances, but here we are again.

The way Mata's agent - presumably Juan's mother was busy - has seen fit to publicly attack the coach is embarrassing for him and for the player, and in one stroke has made Mata's position at the club untenable. Which suggests to me that Mata has seen the writing on the wall and this is his exit strategy.

that he is, why bother.

Mmm, SDFC owned by Egyptian fam he coming in as shareholder.
Christ I didn't know Mata had shares in AlpineF1 as well.
I suppose hanging at parra is a holiday if you consider that as such compared to what else he could be doing but might as well use WSW/APL $$.
