Well it lets you play friendlies without screwing up your fifa ranking. Can play a domestic based roos side
 
Travelling foreign club teams on end of year junkets for one.....
That's all I could think of too - is using "Australia A" (which by the sounds of it could pretty much be just an 'A-League All Stars' team anyways, minus the imports) once a year, or twice a year perhaps if they come on their start of pre-season tours, be sufficient?
 
I don't think a B side would benefit us much.

If you're not NT standard by 23, or you aren't putting yourself into solid consideration anyways, is it really necessary to have somewhat of a trial squad?
 
our next generation of stars are playing in other countries and waiting to be naturalised for having Aussie DNA
 
Very good point. Would give even club players that exposure too.
I miss the pre seasons of yesteryear where Indo/Malay/Singapore teams would come to Perth. I distinctly remember an NSL preseason where Sarawak came down!
