Watching Auckland v Tottenham and didn't realise New Zealand is now called "Aotearoa New Zealand"....

In the first 15 minutes, 3 times the match commentator has referred to it as such!

His co-commenyator Paul Ifill has referred to it in the old venacular "New Zealand" just the once!!

I think it was something I picked up on during the Women's World Cup
 
Given the social media storm yesterday re Channel 7's use of Socceroo fan footage to promote the Rugby League World Cup, I had a look at what Channel 7 paid for the RL World Cup Rights. The answer is apparently $12 million. The schedule shows there are only 18 men's games and 15 women's games for the tournament(s). Compare that to the less than $5 million it paid for the 2023 Women's World Cup and $30 million SBS got the Men's World Cup rights for.

It drives me mad when free-to-air stations continue to pay significantly over the top for certain sports rights, continue to struggle financially, and then seek (and obtain) government grants to cover their own poor financial decisions.
 
Low ratings for such a big match, maybe a classic case of football fatigue.

Peppa’s oinking on borrowed time, mate. Turns out even a globally beloved cartoon porker gets utterly cremated on the ratings board when it goes toe-to-toe with Italian Calcio giants sweating it out for ninety minutes.

At this rate, Peppa’s next career move is getting drop-kicked straight into the breakfast bacon aisle. Poor George and Daddy Pig are probably out on the curb right now, aggressively trying to flog signed oink-cartoons just to make rent....

Very shocked it was that many. While not against any money-making preseason game and people having fun watching the team they've supported from overseas, I'd never spend 90+minutes of my life watching it on tv.
