The 2026 Australian Census of Population and Housing is here! Census night is tomorrow night. It is mandatory that you complete it and answer truthfully.

Nerds, use this thread to discuss the census. Any early predictions for the results?

Not me lol, even though I grew up on Star Wars. Even though it’d be funny to put that as a religion, it actually brings up the number of religious people so if you’re not religious you should just put “no religion”. Personally I think too many irreligious people already put down a religion, even though they don’t follow it (but that number’s dropping, as more and more people are ticking the “no religion” box).

Interestingly though, the ABS doesn’t officially report the number of responses for Jediism because they don’t recognise it as a religion. In 2001, 1.5% of Kiwis, 0.8% of Brits and 0.37% of Aussies said they were Jedi Knights, with Brighton and Hove reporting between 2.6% and 2.8% of the population Jediism (the highest percentage in the UK).

Expect no religion to get a higher number. Bless the Czech Rep and their shunning of religion and worshipping beer.

I agree, the number should reach over 50%. There’s clearly people who tick a religion but don’t follow it, but it’s decreasing thanks to campaigns from the ASL (not to be confused with the ACL, a Christian lobby who thinks the opposite).
