Are they paid during the off season though or are their contracts just dormant between seasons?

I think most ALW players are on single season contracts so I don’t know what ‘ falling out of contract’ actually means.

Does the FA track the wellbeing of Matildas players as they move forward in their careers or are they just left to deal with whatever happens. Football Australia are good at hyping players but I wonder what happens when a player is no longer on the ‘front page’.

She had some fitness problems which I believe were related to mental health.

I agree there is no easy answer, I was just trying to stimulate discussion on what options there might be.

I agree there are many ‘ifs and buts’ but somehow systems need to be put in place to address the slow development of young players.

Maybe it would be better if ALW clubs had teams in their respective state leagues, I know some do but I don’t think they use players from the ‘run on’ squads.

There is so much potential in the womens game here but the lack of true pathways is so detrimental to development.

I honestly don’t see why players are allowed to be brought in at the end of the ALW season. It just diminishes the league’s standing as a place for player development.

When all the ‘fog’ has cleared I think you will find that the professional game has returned to the FA.

I think you are worrying too much, it’s just the realignment of FA and the professional game. It’s obvious that the APL can’t run the game so it will return to the FA fold.

And Peta Trimis, Annalese Rasmussen etc. (if we can include players from such lowly clubs as the Mariners). 🤓

It will be the last hurrah for the older players in the squad but the younger ones will have two or three world cups after this one.
