Yeah I was fairly disappointed with the Boyle omission initially. I think on ability and talent alone, he is better than Mabil, Leckie and Nish however clearly this is a decision that Popa has made as Boyle just does not suit his system. Those aforementioned players are all capable and have...
I get Popa wants to play like this but the two 6s doesn't really work. You need someone who can carry and keep the ball in the Mooy mould. Especially when we have the ball as much as we do, need someone who can keep it. Irvine and O'Neill individually may be good but together it has never and...
Yep unfortunately that is my prediction too. Yengi would have a lot to prove but so little time.
A CB has to be dropped too and I think Geria, Trewin would be perceived as our RWB depth, hence the lack of need for Rowles.
And he has seemingly never been a huge Devlin fan.
I have my doubts about O'Neill but Irvine has proven the past few tournaments and especially in Australian outfits on the back foot to be a very good and important player.
No reason to think he won't do the same this June. But I suppose it'll remain to be seen.
So which 4 drop out now?
Gonna have to be one of Gauci and Beach obviously.
I'd say one of Degenek, Geria, Trewin or Rowles
And then two of Borrello, Nish, Mabil, Hrustic, Boyle, Leckie, Yengi and Devlin.
Geria, Borrello and Nish are who I'd go for.
Geria and Degenek are favourites of Popa. I cannot see either of them being dropped especially as they can cover right fullback where we are seriously lacking in depth. I'd say Rowles is more likely.
Wouldn't surprise me if it's Yengi and Devlin.
Primarily because all the fans want to see...
The reality is we are never going to be happy with the squad selected. When are we ever?
For me, the only two major disappointments so far are no McGree (which is unavoidable) and Borrello over Robertson.
Hypothetically, if Borrello and Nish were the ones dropped for the final 26, it's a good...
Whilst I was keen for Bennie and Borges-Rodrigues, it was always a long shot. Let's be real. Geria ,Trewin, Degenek and Leckie are probably perceived as enough depth for Popa, whilst all still very limited.
I just really don't like that at least one of Borrello, Mabil and Nish are going to be...
Final squad based on the 29 for me:
Ryan
Izzo
Gauci
Souttar
Circati
Herrington
Burgess
Degenek
Geria
Rowles
Bos
Behich
Italiano
Trewin
Irvine
O'Neill
Devlin
Okon-Engstler
Irankunda
Metcalfe
Hrustic
Boyle
Mabil
Toure
Yengi
Leckie
Although, I reckon Yengi and Devlin are cut and Nish and...
Come on mate, stop with the negativity and cursing the lads.
There is no more risk with us than any other team in world football. You can't bubble wrap them from playing and training for club or international preparation. Some players are more injury prone that others but other than that...
So only three of those get cut.
One will be Gauci or Beach, and then two of Borrello, Mabil and Velupillay you'd think.
I'm staggered that Robbo has been cut, especially with the McGree injury. The other ones, that's perfectly fine but completely bemused....
Is a shame the J-League is going right up until squad selection as I really think T.Yengi's form justifies selection, however with Duke et al. being in camp for nearly 3 weeks, I reckon he will have left his run too late.
I think behind Toure, is our most in form forward.
Yep 100%.
If that's the case, I'd bring in Okon-Engstler and one of Rowles or Geria. Trewin can be our next midfielder up. Not sure Balard's form the last few months really justifies automatic selection. Although it's quite harsh.
Other option is to bring in Duke, Goodwin or Mabil and then...
Starting to think Devlin's form is irresistible. Especially as such a defensive warrior and with doubts around Yazbek and O'Neill.
My squad as it stands:
Ryan
Izzo
Gauci
Train on: Beach
Circati
Souttar
Herrington
Burgess
Degenek
Trewin
Italiano
Bennie
Bos
Behich
Train on: Rowles, Geria...
Really happy with that list and not surprised it was Bennie and Borges Rodrigues called up with our lack of depth at RWB.
Suppose that puts a line through Younis which is disappointing though.
