What will the AFL come up with when the World Cup kicks off? Something to deflect attention back to themselves.. Expansion to 22 clubs? Plans to introduce the game to Brazil? A player sprains his finger?

    Past Socceroos Chat

Just going by Trevor Thompson's history "One Fantastic Goal", the administrators of the NSW Association were extra reactionary and cautious, just wanted to protect their own sinecures as guardians of the game. I can't actually make a judgment as to whether they were actually racist or not. In SA...

Yes, at the '54 Carnival Victoria fielded a good balance of ethnics and Anglos. Every state except NSW had some ethnics. South Australia's squad had only two anglos out of 15 players.

    Past Socceroos Chat

Not sure what you are getting at here. Prior to the Association/Federation split, ethnics were prevented from playing at the top level of Sydney football. So were not selected for the state team. That's why the NSW state team of 54 was all anglo. This situation led to the split a few years...

    Past Socceroos Chat

You are looking at it perhaps from an NSW perspective. Wasn't like that everywhere. 1954, interstate carnival competition- almost the entire SA squad were ethnics: Italians, Hungarians, Balts, Germans etc The entire NSW squad were anglos- no ethnics at all. Seems to have been something rotten...

Funny, that's not mentioned on his wikipedia entry. And wiki even mentions that Ange Costanzo played trial games at Norwich City.

    A-League Mens 25/26 - Semi Finals

Lol- Adelaide's "foreign coach" came to Adelaide 30 years ago. He has even played in the NSL.

    A-League Mens 25/26 - Semi Finals

Very physical Auckland slog their way into the final, with the referee letting too much go. A disapointing Adelaide could not rise to the occasion.

Hindmarsh can pack 15-16k at the most. At the 2000 Olympics capacity was increased to 19.5 k by errecting temporary stands to fill in the corners. They will never do that again.

    A-League Mens 25/26 - Round 26

Fantastic league winning performance by the Jets. After Adelaide they were the only team worth watching. They are a shot in the arm that the A League needed. Hope they don't blow it in the end of season cup final.

Yeah. And the fact that he wasn't aware of the fact that soccer had been played continually in Australia for 70 years before he arrived, is an indictment of Australian soccer administration to sell their own game- both to native born and recent immigrants.

My first involvement with Greek fans was turning up at Hindmarsh with a couple of friends to watch the West Adelaide Hellas vs Melbourne Hungaria Australia Cup tie. A Greek guy said to us "are you Greek?" "No". "Are you from Melbourne?" "No" "Then why you want to watch?" I thought afterwards-...

Good stuff, Mono. Only just found this fanview post I'm afraid. My experience with following football is the opposite to that of yours and the other Hellas boys. No family, club and community to draw me in. All of my family and most of my friends were not into sockah. I had just 3 or 4 friends...
