I'd pick him before I picked Shaq or Gretzky! Who said they have to be American? Why not Rafael Marquez? I can tell you, he's played in 5 more World Cups than Shaq has! Is this a 3-country World Cup or not? Absolute joke. Would be no different to if we were the hosts and we got Wayne Carey, George Gregan and Ricky Ponting up on stage.

If they can't find an American, Mexican or Canadian, at least find a footballer. One from MLS maybe. There's a little Argentinean fella over there who's meant to go alright. Not Gretzky level, but still decent.
 
If Australia had a world cup, which Sherrin wankers would be part of the draw. Trust 9 to get the right and have Eddie Maguire make stupid comments.

Were Tom Brady and Wayne Gretzky chosen because they support and are friends with Donald Trump?

As for Shaq, he may not be football-related but he's a legend and a cool guy and isn't really political.

Being alikened to Collingwood or a Collingwood fan is everyone's worst nightmare lol. Unless you unfortunately support Collingwood.

I'm a Collingwood supporter. The irony of these comments is Collingwood gets treated as badly by the media and public as football. The hatred is so entrenched most don't even remember where it began. Though it's a great story.

As a non-AFL supporter my guess would be that Collingwood are hated by the public in the same way as Manly-Warringah were hated when Arthurson held so much sway in the NRL, like Eddie in the AFL. Sydney FC had the same problem with Lowy.

Completely different mate. It goes back to the late 1800's. Collingwood was the poorest area of Melbourne then, full of abattoirs and their effluent. It was full of Irish Catholic and the dirt poor. That's where the prejudice began. When we began beating our richer neighbours the hatred started.

Later the club opposed conscription in WWI because the government were pulling more kids out poor communities like Collingwood compared to affluent neighbourhoods like East Melbourne. That wasn't well received. White feather nonsense. We were just protecting our community then.

Victoria Park was also a fierce and inhospitable place for visiting teams and supporters.

Collingwood has never had much influence at AFL house. You're thinking of Carlton.

I don't follow NRL but Manly strikes me as the yuppies of the comp with the Roosters. That is the opposite of Collingwood.

More recently Eddie is pretty polarising. Eddie as president did a lot of good things socially, getting out of pokies, homeless housing etc. But ruined a lot of things too with his stupid racist comments. I don't like the stories of him lobbying against footballs efforts to host the World Cup either.

That was certainly my first thought.

As for that little Argentinian fella, he's got a cup final on Saturday.

This draw is going to be more painful than usual, but hopefully the actual draw makes it worth it.
