ALM TV Ratings

I know could t believe it…..
I channel surfed past those games but there is a strong Polynesian following for the nrl.
I know there is a strong Polynesian following there. The roads in Brisbane on Sunday were full of cars driving to Suncorp with huge Samoan or Tongan flags bring held out of the windows. Plus one idiot I saw riding on the roof of the car down Hale St while holding a giant flag.
But I still find it very hard to believe that PNG v Cook Islands would have a viewing audience of 500k plus.

Yer agreed Keeper
I’ve always wondered about ratings stats surveys etc....so much smokes and mirrors.
PNG have over 10M pop mind you - forget Cook Islands been there you can count them haha nah its around 23K.
I tend to think though so so many of the islanders are into league - they are starved of comps like these for themselves so begs to wonder.

These figures are not directly comparable.

Stakes Day is a national reach figure.

Womens AFL is a 25-54 years demo reach figure
Aleague is a 16-39 years demo reach figure

Doesn't matter, more people tune into watching Woman's ALF then they do A-League Men's FACT. The first 2 games of the season got zero ratings??? Compare that to last season when almost 250k tuned in. Maybe more people have brought into watching ALM on Paramount this year I dont have the facts for that but it just maybe the reason for low ratings, However over 500k watched the Aus Cup Final on FTA this year which was up 350% from last year.

Its assumption, and while probably correct this can only be inferred from the presented data. With the VOZ top 30 ranking by Reach and not average, theres a few programs not getting mentioned that would otherwise be noted if the ranking was done by average.

They didnt get zero ratings, they just werent on the published top 30. ThIs means a lower reach, not necessarily a lower average.

Things are looking dire this season with only 2 games out of the 6 rounds so far making the ratings chart, it just goes to show we just can match the likes of WAFL anymore so a kids cartoon. Ratings have dropped %80 so far from last season.

Need a new suit to come in and at least try

WSW coach was saying there needs to be more promotion of the game and said NRL are always on the TV and new papers saying there the best game in the world meanwhile everyone in Australia focus on the negitive aspect of the game of ALM comp. He mentioned the Matilda’s getting 2m views on TV and Socceroos getting to round of 16.but A-League is dire.

What's your point?

To be brutally direct, in commercial TV terms the A League rights are close to worthless right now. Any broadcast investor would have to be investing either because they have nothing else to fill the schedule or because they see potential for growth. The latter scenario only flies if the investment is substantial enough to grow the League through more money to clubs and a functional marketing budget. Has to be said, not very likely. Paramount is the first case - the A League as schedule filler.

When I say close to worthless, I mean in relative television terms. They will always be worth something. However, we risk falling into a death spiral where the amount the league is worth is not enough to sustain a viable competition, which is the case now. What happens then is that the value of the league continues to diminish over time. I remember reading years ago a comment from a poster who obviously had some expertise in this area, saying that based on their experience the A-League was entering exactly that kind of spiral. This is not a fast process, more of a slow trickle. Looking back and remembering that comment and looking at the state of the league at the moment, that poster may have been right. I very much hope not. I'm desperate for the A-League succeed, but the picture is very gloomy right now.
