Australian Dual Nationals 🇦🇺🏳️

A big factor is that teams like Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and others never make the World Cup so there is very little incentive to follow their national team/players/league etc. Hence the support in SE Asia for the EPL teams and Messi and Ronaldo.

They still do make a big deal(albeit not to the extent of the past) about one-upping each other@ Asian&World Cup qualifiers, as well as the ASEAN Championship and Asian Games.

They support their national teams but yeah more people follow the EPL than the Thai League 1 in Thailand for example.

Yeah, there is quite a bit of local rivalry. Lots of fun being made of Malaysia with the Football Association Malaysia’s blatant forging of birth certificates which FIFA has caught them doing. Instead of admitting it, they’ve doubled down and are now talking about going to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Darko Stanojevic is another dual-national for those who like to keep an eye on these. I've mentioned him in the past. 28 years old and currently plays for Loznica in the Serbian 2nd Tier. LB or LCB who plays nearly every minute of most games. 16 appearances so far this season. Usually rates high 6's or 7s on Sofascore. Had one game for Perth Glory back in the 2021/22 season.

Played a full game last night in a 1-1 away draw to Vozdovac.
Most random AL signing ever. Signed in January, made one sub appearance and never seen again until he was selling his training stuff on Facebook marketplace. He can play in midfield as well I believe

Bro Josh Sotirio was never playing for Sydney FC let alone the Socceroos
Yeah I was talking about Triantis & Pavlesic mate. Another snake that should've/ could've played for us is Gold Coast born & raised Lydon Dykes who could very well make the Scottish squad for the World Cup next year

Interesting to think about for sure. But you need the money, infrastructure and to be embedded in the culture, it isn't just population. India are the superpower of world cricket because all of these things are present. But 2% of India isn't getting anything done. We think improving the football culture here is tough, it would be so much worse in India.
For what it's worth, India's equivalent of #SokkahTwitter is doing its bit in raising awareness of the task at hand:

To answer the question asked by ESPN, the reason is because Curaçao have an easy way of qualifying as they play in CONCACAF which is much easier than the AFC that India play in, while Cape Verde (and probably also Curaçao) are just a better team and have proven it given African qualifying is insane (for footballing and non-footballing reasons).

Furthermore, India's entire squad plays in the ISL, while Cape Verde and Curaçao have the benefit of having Europeans of their descent who are eligible to represent them (very few of Curaçao's squad was born there, almost all of them were born in the Netherlands as Curaçao is a Dutch territory).

Dunno if hrs been mentioned but I saw Charles M’Mombwa got two goals and an assist v Kuwait in the last window. Despite that, they still lose 4-3!

Anybody know much about Nikola Gutovic? 16 yo playing for Luzern U17. Scored 4 this weekend as a centre-forward, bringing his season tally to 16 goals in 14 games. Has appeared in the U19's as well, made a couple of appearances for the Swiss U15's last year but I believe he has Aussie citizenship.

Born in Sydney, he is also eligible for Serbia.
