Jake Weatherald with a disastrous Test debut, bowled out LBW by Jofra Archer for a second ball duck following review.

OOf poor start from weatherald. Didnt look convincing in 2 balls

Took our own time to get off the mark. Msybe a bowlers pitch?

won't know until the newball is 20 overs old. If aussies are still struggling by over 20-25 then that's a good sign for the bowlers

seems to be less lateral movement the last 2-3 overs

Loose bus change out just as Australia were getting a bit of control. England falling into the trap a lot of teams fall to in perth - if you bowl short of a length it looks dramatic and you get a lot of plays and misses but its more effective to pitch on a normal length or even a fraction fuller

Labuschagne normally leaves that ball, but you can be a bit vulnerable when you transition from seeing off a new ball to going into second gear and feeling bat on ball. Our batting line up looks a bit fragile on paper, so England have a sniff here

A combination of almost express pace bowling with a lively surface is making batting extremely difficult for both teams. Unfortunately we have only Starc that can reach 145 clicks, while they have four.

Yer Richie always been a fast track.
I’m heading to APIA game will be keeping an eye hope we don’t loose more

Australia definitely needs to bat a lot better in the second innings.

I have had doubts about a lack of young specialist opening Batsmen for games like this.

I don't follow shield as closely as I used to but we have an aging batting line up and Green hasn't cemented a top 6 spot.

I remember Gordon Greenwich starting his career with 2 ducks, so a duck first test innings can happen to anyone.

Head, Green, Starc and Carey played very loose shots in the circumstances.

Come on guys lift your game, we can't let the Poms win.

Ahh! Alex Carey, the guy was put there specifically for that shot. And he was batting so well.

Yes he has. Top scorer on the West Indies tour. He aimed an off drive ball must've moved a fraction and he got a feather touch, dont call that throwing away my wicket. But you make some good points in your post.

We were looking good to at least reach their score too before that late crash.

Boland and Doggett are gonna have to lift their game in their second innings or we are facing an embarrassing loss in the series opener.

Well done West Aussies, 58K fans for first day.

If we put a price on our wicket we will have a substantial f/i lead.
This rings extra true now.

VERY disappointing show with the bat after getting into such a strong position with the ball. I know Khawaja not being able to bat would have caused panic in the changeroom but once out in the middle no one stood up and had a clear plan for how to counteract the Poms pace barrage.
