Summer of Cricket thread

Two of the all time great bowlers in world cricket are hard to replace.

Is that Mike fellow still launching diatribes on how bad a Test bowler Hazlewood is, Baggers?
Yep, did last time he was on WP, never praises him tho when he deserves it. Always negative isnt he DC.

So many hammys with the fast bowlers currently is interesting...so much short form cricket with a lot of 4 over spells maybe when the workload increases their bodies are struggling to adapt? Especially when aging like Hazlewood.
You make a very pertinent point odw. That could very well be the reason why Hazlewood has been plagued by minor but niggling and lingering injuries for a while now. Reckon he has played as much dual white ball cricket too as anyone, prob more T20 as he has a fab record and is picked fior almost every match. Plus he is a IPL regular..

It is weird!

How anyone with genuine cricket knowledge can't see that Hazlewood is an all time great, is unbelievable.

His and Cummins' line and length can be relentless. The Poms will be thrilled they don't have to face Josh H and Pat C on Friday.

The Tassie v Blues match on Sat may be a stop/start affair with some showery weather predicted to hit Sydney DC.

Still the Aussie starting X1 has not been announced.
Finally the X1 for First Test is official.

Usman Khawaja, Jake Weatherald, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith (capt), Travis Head, Cameron Green, Alex Carey, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Scott Boland, Brendan Doggett.

JW will open DC, I reckon he is our best bet to put pressure back onto their strike pair of Woods and Archer.

They may be calling us Dads Army but for mine experience is like gold in an Ashes series and we have masses of it. If my sums are correct our five oldest players, Khawaja, Lyon, Smith, Starc, Hazlewood have 518 Tests between them, the two willow wielders have 16,450 runs combined, while the bowling trio have 1,259 wickets.

What's your thoughts on the toss??

I say bat first and if Jake and Uzzie get through the first hour unscathed.....ohhh there could be early pain for these cocky Poms.

Attended the women's T20 game between Hobart Hurricanes and Adelaide Strikers on Tuesday night. It was a thriller!

HH got home with 2 balls to go chasing 134.

Quite a few Aussie and Pom Test players on display. The females definitely play more genuine cricket shots, relying on placement, than the male T20 sloggers.

Was very impressed with Adelaide Strikers Darcie Brown's performance. She took 4 wickets in 4 overs! She was fast and straight, trying to hit the top of off, bowling a third stump line.

I'm not happy, Baggers.

For mine Webster has performed well as a Test all rounder and shouldn't have been dropped.

Weatherald is unknown as a Test player.

Doggett is still untried as a Test player, but deserves his go.

Usman is aged 39 and has underperformed as a batter. His fielding is weak, so they hide him in slips, instead of having Webster fielding there, the best slipper in Aus.

Labu has done the work scoring runs at a lower level, but was dropped from the Test team after a long period of failure.

The attack is old, hence they need Webster's back up pace bowling in support to lighten the load. He has just taken 8 wickets against South Aus in the Shield in Tas on a pitch doing a bit, including Head and Carey in both innings.

Green has never been able to bowl sustained spells.

For mine

Weatherald
Labu ( doesn't get to choose where he bats, he fits team balance)
Green
Smith
Head
Webster
Carey
Starc
Kuhnemann (top Aus wicket taker in SL Tests in SL this year)
Boland
Doggett

Lyon and Usman - retired or dropped by selectors.

Well here we go....Richie is the pitch the usual "quick" as in the ol days ?

For some aside trivia - politics have got Pigeon to be punted - pardon the pun.

and on a different sad note on one of our Legends

CAX1 quick Charlie Anderson is playing an international before he even plays state red ball cricket and he is looking nervous against the England Lions on what looks like a batting paradise..

Green yorks Pope in his first over to break a growing partnership..
Then is taken off and doesnt bowl another over for the innings..
