The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

At the end of the six rounds of the group stage, half of the foundation clubs Wollongong, Preston, Sydney United and Sydney Olympic did not qualify for the quarter finals. Had expected that least six of the eight foundation clubs would have progressed.

Weather looking pretty average at this stage in Sydney next Friday, but at least there’s a decent amount of cover from the elements at Leichhardt
well here we go again eh....
Wish it wasn't going to end this way for you blokes :) lol......
Should be a cracker game I hope - yes maybe light showers but hopefully that changes come match evening.

As I say the good thing about it being at Leichhardt for me is that on a Friday night I can make it to the game after work etc

As for the final word on the group stage. We obviously put a line through Sydney United early on but Sydney Olympic and Preston absolutely crapped the bed. Both squads clearly good enough to finish at least 2nd and make the knockout rounds.

i know we were disappointing, however we had 9-10 player changes through the squad.

you could argue the Preston was more disappointing considering they added to their squad and did a training tour in Macedonia lol.

i called it before, there was no need for that trip and the players looked gassed.

Go to a pub lol.

We all went to Orange Grove Hotel before our clash with APIA weeks ago.
Haha I’m not saying I’m going the places, I won’t be going to any of them personally. but if we’re talking about which Italian places are best in Leichhardt, that’s my 2c

After Marconi's pathetic effort on the weekend it would be a miracle if they get the win against APIA.
Perhaps, could be the kick up the ass that was needed, as i say, the club clearly rotated the squad and didn’t take the match as seriously as they should have, but we shall see. Should be a good game at the very least. fingers crossed a crowd of 4-5k

Are you able to give us a picture of how many of that squad are gone and not participating in the Australian Championship. To be honest, I’d never heard of them before this competition.

They look like a decent ball playing team.
They’ve still got a decent core of the squad, but they’ve lost their coach and a couple of players since the end of the npl. I’m having a mental blank re which players off the top of my head.

Again, they did very well to win it, it’s not surprising you hadn’t heard of them, their first ever year in npl 1 was in 2023, they’d been in the lower leagues before that and certainly weren’t tipped to win it this year, very much a Leicester esque situation
