NPL 2026

Just seeing you brought it up Zelen.....
Rockdale sure have the power/strength/depth over them as we all know who follow the league.
Will be a huge change for Sutho challenge Suns.
For such the big catchment its been you'd think they would have featured alot more at the pointy end over the years.
Their outlook is similar to Manly - either end of the metro - put in a good season here and there but very up and down.

Interesting how they will go next season

The club isn’t expecting to challenge for the title straight away but will definitely challenge Rockdale for the Aus Championship spot for 2026
Hey mate, would you say that Rockdale have shifted their reasoning behind wanting to be competitive in the league BECAUSE of the allure of the Aus Championship?

I mean, is this league attractive enough to clubs who missed out this year to want to try for next time?

I would say yes from when it was announced that the highest Ranked NSW team was going to the championship the club was eager to compete cause we would’ve brought decent crowds and on the pitch I think we would’ve topped Group C with Avondale

Will be interesting this season with Sutherland investing massively but bar Rockdale and Sutherland don’t see anyone competing for the Spot

As for the other clubs I’m not sure but why wouldn’t it be attractive if you get it right there’s $$ to be made

I'm curious to see what impact the Championship also has on the foundations clubs. Will they look to save money during the NPL because they don't have to qualify? I'm hearing that the Championship will go full home and away after next season. I'm also hearing that there will be some changes at Sydney Olympic since the owner is involved with CCM. I think there may be a gap between some of the top and bottom NPL NSW clubs this coming season. Lets see!

You know I was thinking that the other day watching a game. Alot of clubs were very wary of joining which is understandable giving the finances involved however the tournament it doing very well and has some serious legs. On an ongoing basis the question of the FA financing the travel will have to be addressed however to any potential new entrants however if their is enough entrants I think splitting the tournament in geographical conferences might help with that. Alleviate that travel cost a bit.

some good points.
Re the foundation clubs - I think they would tackle as usual, you'd expect they done their $ forecasting before the comp commenced.
Sure it most likely is + or - by X but obviously would have picked up some extra sponsership funds incl for the coming NPL season.
I don't think any of the F8 can rest on their laurels the coming season - they need to show the commitment have a good NPL season enhancing to grow their support base you'd think.
Well I sure would look at it that way.
I agree the coming season could present a huge box of chocolates.
The F8 clubs have had a very long season, will be interesting what impact it delivers.

As for the question will other clubs strive to be part of it or prefer not.
Well there will always be the ones happy to stay as they are - others not - your Club games is "live" on SBS.
It is getting more exposure than we have had for 20yrs - I'd expect any Club that tick the box's to be part of the Championship has great incentive doing so.... going H/A it will be our Premier NPL Comp.
Yep costs will need to be sorted between the FA and Clubs EZ correct, IF its gets 12 or 16 Clubs spreading the costs makes it more viable.

Exactly this...
My hope is that yhe serious foundation clubs will strengthen and that includes for the NPL, some more some less, all will have the next Championshipnin mind.
Re the foundation clubs Sth, Avondale, Wests, Marconi are more complete, and need few signings.
Preston is already showing its view moving forwRd with strong signings.
I highly doubt SU58 will be this complacent again, wollongong will see this year as a learning experience and only get better the next time round, olympic is interesting and dependent on the coaching/management.

As far as the rest go, they need to step up,
South hibart proved its good off the field and has interest but needs to get the on the park stuff sorted and apply to be permanent, bergers has retained and strengthened but they need to commit fully and not just rely on the easy qualification aveneue or miss out on h&a, i expect Ad City to ginally apply succesfully, qld i expect a solid permanent bid also.

Interest should be there for a EOI from the ckubs that fixed the issues the last time round to be successful this time and then easily h&a.

I think a major point of interest should be how much favor these foundation clubs can gather from local government in terms of funding, also think control of facilities will be important.

I desperately hope SU58 can get it together considering they are obviously having issues with policing at games and having half of their squad absent from their inaugural Aus Championship campaign.

Great point, i think other than olympics perenial problems and perhaps wollongong needed to not be at collegians which was shocking surface and maybe even steering away from turf pirches the rest have a good working relstionship, that with some funding from government as you say this could go up another level and cement sustainability which wpuld be huge boost.

As do we all..

Mounties only cares about rugby league and cricket.

Speaking of Mounties, looks like they will be spending big Afterall, as they are calling the new project Back to Back.

They have signed Symonds, Vella, Jake Mcging, Nick Sullivan and Patrick Antelmi.

7/10 article - old news for some......
For those that argue rugby league can coincide with football harmoneously, Olympic is the prime example that it could never.
Only thing i could think of worse woudlve been the power the afl wouldve flexed on killing our code if we had to share grounds down here.. Thank f%$k we dodged a bullet there!

Like I've mentioned way back - SO should have searched and forged a new home lonnnng ago.
Own worst enemy imo.
Surely when your at the mercy of local council that would always be far more aligned with the shared main/favoured partner who gets far more revenue and NRL governance support you know your days are numbered.
Yer Thankfully most of the remaining NPL are not at nrl mercy.
Hang on, some will say about APIA's recent alliance.
Not a prob, Leichardt used by NRL Tigers back in the old days shifted away in '99 due to their Wests merger.
The reno of Leichardt will be shared a little I see but Wests Club who own the nrl franchise are investors for years with APIA so I'd say its in ok hands looking ahead......

Agree mate huge bullet dodged down there with their clout - got to think glad those afl clubs failed with their dip in the ocean football wise.

Thoughts? He didnt impress onfield but is this a scapegoat situation to take pressure off the board?
I didnt rate him, and scratched my head at his decisions.

Caused a lot of dramas in the dressing room with senior players and didnt have good man management skills from what I've been told.

Nice guy and all, but he is better off coaching women's football.
