My problem with VAR is twofold:

the inconsistent application of the laws; and
the inconsistent use of VAR.

What I really hate is when you see a VAR ref refer a possible penalty decision or red card decision for one team but not refer an identical decision for the other team. Happens all the time and it drives me fucking mad.
My hatred of VAR is it gets rid of that incredible emotion of football

you can't celebrate straight away because you have to wait for VAR. It's not the same

yeah agreed

would we really change the 2006 world cup to fix all the ref decisions if we could? They cancel out anyway over time
Careful some will be claiming a Cahill red against Japan. I've watched it numerous times and the Japanese player actually flops using his standing leg. Made it look very real. maybe his teammates saw it as no one even claimed a penalty despite the Cahill lunge.

would love @Muz @NicCarBel 's opinion on the cahill red against japan. Also Grella probably got a red against brazil

No highlights show the former so the full replay has it from multiple angles. The more I watch it you can see the Japanese player initiates a forward fall using his hip to tip and tumble and the standing leg for direction. Live it looks bad but the player has definitely initiated his own movements rather than react to small Cahill contact.

I recall Grella's moment vaguely but knowing Grella it's probably a red.

it wass above the shin pads and drew blood :D. I rememberat the time I felt hard done by that people "unfairly" saw us as an overly physical team

imagine if we had asian refs!

Game clock time? Edit: Found it.

I've always thought it was a red by the standards these days but I'm interested in what JS has said.

Well put it this way.....We've seen them given. (You'd have to check contact but it looks like he got him.)

At the very least it looks like a penalty. Lucky VAR wasn't sticking it's nose in.

The biggest problem for us with VAR in 2006 could well be Harry's equaliser - which has always looked offside to me.

Mind you, at least they would have been down to ten much earlier.
Yeah that game we would have had 10 penalties lol

Joe Gauci not in the matchday squad altogether for Port Vale in their EFL Trophy Northern Section group G game against Fleetwood Town.

If you look at the far left of the screen in the video footage you can see the ref is about to blow the whistle but then waves it away. A bit later some players appeal for a penalty and there's a bit of arguing in the box.

What find interesting how Cahill's left foot then seemingly ends up past the player's right shin. The way the Japanese player's right foot goes suggests a jump but the video shows a flop to his left. Also, why does his left foot need to go so far back? I watched the replay numerous times and each time he looks up and sees he's got nowhere to go so he tries to draw into the man. He also kicks the ball far away. The original scene also shows so much momentum from a near standing start.

The replay may suggest Cahill grazes the kneecap but that being the most pain area the opponent would've grabbed at it immediately. He just lies there. The replay shows him them just holding his shin in the exhaustion of that very hot day.

Denmark in Qatar remember the ref gave them a penalty but the offside flag was up. Thankfully that happened as I think we may have had a slight tag or dubious review there. Heart attack stuff. Wilkshire goes 'oh no...'

Yeah Suminic's rugby tackle on Viduka would surely have been called.

Kewell was definitely offside.

I reckon Schwarzer had a fair shout too for the barge the Japanese bloke put on him for their goal. His fault for not being strong enough but a VAR look could have seen it scrubbed.

No one likes referees, and they also operate the VAR, so , no.

Get ex- players to run it.

Laughable.

30 seconds of listening to any player/pundit spouting nonsense about a ref's decision shows you they have no clue.

Fowler crapping on the other day about the offside that he thought wasn't interfering is a perfect example.
