You don't truly love football if you don't hate VAR.
Until broadcasters and pundits stop using referee errors as a reporting angle, it's best to clarify most things.

Need a culture shift of refs call it as they see it and broadcasters stopping with the perpetual replays. Ironically Championship fans moan all the time about bad calls and say something must be done but will shit on VAR the next minute.

partly agree....but that feeling of unfairness is part of the game and probably journalists should lean into it

its just not a problem to be solved!

No one likes referees, and they also operate the VAR, so , no.

Get ex- players to run it.
I'd be amazed if the majority of fans wanted to get rid of referees though,

so I do think the reaction to var and referees is different

I know what you mean but VAR came from the screaming injustice which was the angle pundits and broadcasters took. They were too preoccupied with riling people up than analysing and enjoying the match.

I get that a commentator will comment on an offside when a replay is shown but if we can build a culture of accepting what the ref saw the first time and moving on to the next play we'll be better off.

yeah agreed

would we really change the 2006 world cup to fix all the ref decisions if we could? They cancel out anyway over time

My problem with VAR is twofold:

the inconsistent application of the laws; and
the inconsistent use of VAR.

What I really hate is when you see a VAR ref refer a possible penalty decision or red card decision for one team but not refer an identical decision for the other team. Happens all the time and it drives me fucking mad.

I'm ok with VAR if they impose a time limit on it. Three or four minute interruptions should be out. I think back to huge matches like the 1975 European Cup Final or the 2002 R16 match between S Korea and Italy where VAR would have been a welcome addition, imo.
