To be fair, it was the first true attempt at nationalising a football code of any kind in Australia.. All the kudos for that pioneering effort at least, but the NSL never got its act together in a consistent way...
I think this outlook very much applies of back in the day.
The game has so many detractors from the outside and then we were our own worst enemy inside.
Hence a major part why it all blew up.
Lots of egos, leaking $, lack of respect from the general population you name it.
They tried - hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Its very ironic with all the history above the replacement comp has followed despite all the more bells whistles and worse knwoing what happenned before.
Alot of mud had stuck to our game period.
 
I still can't work out how Wollongong Macedonia got into the NSL.
I can remember a promotion play-off between West Adelaide and Morwell Falcons. West Adelaide were a shambles only 2 or 3 years after their league title.
It was all so haphazard.
Wasn't it through the licensed club that backed them, the " Fraternity club " ?
