Jist heard that Italiano is out with a calf injury picked up at training. Looks like Miller will be the go to. Its some consolation that Miller looks to be in peak (to date) career form.
I'm surprised to say it, but Italiano has acquitted himself well at Right WB for the Socceroos.

After seeing him captain the Young Socceroos, I thought there was little improvement left. I was wrong!

He is already playing as well as Miller. None of Karacic, Geraint Jones or Strain have played well enough there IMO.

Scotland didn't improve Atkinson either. He may be better suited to midfield.

5-1 Colombia, there just to darn good and will be running rings around us all day long. If there reserve players smashed Mexico 4-0 just imagine what there full strength squad are gonna do to the Socceroo's cum 2 weeks time. Bring on Pot 3!!!
You are just so conservative, NM.

Colombia will beat Aus 40 - 0!

If the game was played this week, I would go for Trewin.
I've been very impressed with him as a DM for City.

Given he is a CB this augurs well for the Roos in terms of versatility.

However, the issue is he has had quite a lot of time on the ball. Most AL teams are playing with only a modicum of Squeezing intensity.

SFC are Squeezing more intensely. It will be interesting to see him perform against them?

I'm impressed with how quick Trewin's handling speed is. Also, he is quite two footed. When he receives the ball he quickly passes it on. He adjusts his body position superbly to receive effectively if slightly on the wrong foot.

Being a CB, Trewin has heading, tackling and body on body strength in 1v1s too.

:ROFLMAO:
True true JS96 - having been accosted of my approach towards NM in another thread I have come to accept and embrace NM's idiotic predictions as just twisted humour I need to sit back think breath and exhale - good for the soul and besides 9.99 out of 10 he is pissanting.

Really look forward to these games heap of unkowns for us great test.
I like NM's contributions!

Just good natured stirring - not like those Anarchy saboteurs!

Wonder if Atkinson is being considered given injuries? 2 tournaments of experience and generally reliable. Also better at wing back than full back but has also been playing in midfield.

Better in midfield but a reasonable option under the circumstances. I, as usual, would like to see Baccus given an opportunity there whilst nevertheless fully resigned to Popa being unwilling to try that experiment.

Baccus was in initial squads and was subbed one at RWB Japan away. Somehow he could be a handy utility but I still prefer others.

O'Neill needs a dropping to get himself back into gear. Too much complacency.

I hope we've moved on from Atkinson. Miller has that position sewn up. If we try anyone Karacic has been in recent squads or unlucky with injury, but has better club form than during his earlier national team appearances. I'd like to see how he's developed.

I remain unconvinced by Miller at rb/rwb (some opponents especially) but receptive to him at rcb.

Okay. I either wasn't aware of that or have forgotten about it.

It's just he's still a defensive brain explosion away from something. I really want him to succeed but I loathe how our last two managers have used him as our main attacking outlet from the back. It's akin to England persisting with Henderson.

Credit to him for his set play goals and he's been a massive contributor but I just want to see how we'd go with others. The reason he looked good recently was because he came right into a familiar role while the others were still trialling.

Why can't we try Metcalfe, Irankunda or even Bos inverted in the role? If we're going to use Behich on the left, Bos at RWB isn't the craziest idea.

Ah Karacic. Forgot him. Tidy and reliable. Fine Japan away and at a world cup. Those types of matches prove a player a lot.

Metcalfe and Geria are near assured because of versatility. Baccus and Stensness stake a claim in that category also. Elder and Iredale do too and the former can play much higher up as well.

We've got better options but I've found games with Irvine defensively on the 10 a real nuisance for opponents. Ecuador in Sydney was one example. I think Irvine and Hrustic would be the worst 6 pairing as both panic if they're attacked from all directions. They get really nervous on what to do and where to go. Balard is just so calm and aware.

Don't wish injuries on anyone but the Luongo situation has been clarified. Sucks for him and I'd have picked him.

To be fair to Miller he is in excellent form at a very good club level. I haven't seen too many errors lately and I'm hopeful it's being ironed out by experience.

I'd love to see Metcalfe in the role. So important for the squad as a high quality Mr. fix it. What Brox used to be for Victory.

I've already mentioned Karacic. Strain is still an option. Bennie I reckon is the long term solution there, and its frustrating how QPR is panning out this season for him and our other roos.

Miller is growing on me. He's played some really clever passes lately, cut out his worst errors, is match hardened for club and country.

I hope for, but don't expect everyone in the national team to be stars. Its just not where we're at in our development. But having hard solid role players where we lack quality isn't the worst outcome.

What about Italiano?
