Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

The club really needs to outline what 12 months of pro football looks like for us, how the squads will work, whose coaching the npl team and whose coaching the ofc team overseas etc.

My gut feel is the ofc is going to be too lucrative for us not to have it as the number 1 priority but the fan base will be agitated if that comes at the expense of another piss poor npl campaign.
Totally agree.

We really need to see how the Football Department plans to build these two squads. If allowable, some players may need to play in both competitions. Ideally, the first hub in Auckland could see many first team players as part of pre-season training. We just need to finish top 3 to guarantee making the semi finals. Then for the semis and final, you swap back your first team players. Again, that assumes players can be registered concurrently in 2 competitions, which is probably unlikely.

For players like Spink who have struggled to get game time, this would be perfect for him to focus on. Might be good to sign 3-4 fringe players at Avondale, Heidelberg, Preston, Dandy City to put in your OFC Pro League team to get the team into the finals series.

What a way to win away!

That was not a great first half performance. Probably our worst this campaign. We really only played well in the last 30 minutes.

Sydney Olympic would be gutted with that loss, but they only have themselves to blame. Not sure why they tried to sit back and defend that lead. Opened it up for us to have a late crack at them.

What is a positive is that the team believes it can still win matches even when losing late in a match. That spirit and belief comes from the coach.

Habib looks likely and has shown us he’s capable of some good goals.

If we win this competition, it won’t be through defence but through our attack. Just got to keep scoring more goals than the opposition.

I really want to see more from Pasquali, dont get me wrong he is good but i'd like to see him rip a game apart. I felt sorry for Gianokopoulos today because that bogus yellow he copped early seemed to affect his game. Lavale did zilch, Aguek not much better, the subs did well.

Question is are we keeping Mikkola in for the long throw or is that no longer enough? Because Bonada is back next week and i think Habib has earnt a start as well, i just dont see maxy in our best 11. The way we are defending we never every bit of firepower we can get on the pitch.

If Spink can continue playing at this level, we may get away with Marshall’s injury.
He was good but he also had a lap of judgement that couldve/shouldve cost us dearly! Glad it didnt.

I think thats right on the money. We really missed bonada yestrrday! Lavale in was like we were playing with 10.
Giannkop is a workhorse and that bs card took his legs from under him not wanting to be sent off. Pasquali for me was again on point, he needs time, he is class.

Might be a good chance to give mikkola a rest....id still start with aguek though, he will be better with both uchida and bonada there as we have seen.

That’s how it stands after 4 rounds.

A win this Saturday against Broadmeadow Magic will secure top spot.

Then you can rest some players or give time others that need to gel with the rest of the team.

I think Olympic will either beat or draw against Moreton at Kogarah so our result likely wont matter. Would be nice to finish the group stage with the highest points of all teams.
Does our final position (e.g. points and goal difference) matter when it comes to hosting a potential semi final or grand final ?
