The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

Where did all those people go that attended the greek herald cup at the same venue 2 years ago? They barely improved on the first game attendance.
Can only maybe put it down to the strained relationship between fans the the club atm. Was a threat of rain today but obviously Marconi were more effect last night and got a bigger crowd with less travelling support

For those who went to the game, how was the vibe/atmosphere? What do people think of the venue itself? Good facility obviously but probably too big for Olympic imo. Everyone here knows Olympic have always jumped from ground to ground and I’m not saying they have another obvious next best option having been booted from belmore. Again, would have been akin to a Melb nsl team playing out of Olympic park

1.4K the official crowd.

As a side note, I wonder why offical figures and figures being given by clubs don’t necessarily line up. Case in point; Marconi last night
It didnt give me vibes of a football stadium.. place is nice and all just too big for Olympic... crowd was ok at moments, expected more, some nice things around the ground but seems olympic has some very deep rooted issues and cant sell the idea they are a big club even when playing against SMFC!

Other than when they scored we were louder!

Our next big signing should be Paschalidis... he would be outstanding at lakeside..

Was solid travelling support, definitely starting to look more like the south support from the tail end of the nsl compared to the npl era

Belmore suited them better imo, too bad it’s being taken over by the bulldogs from nrl

Rough day for canberra croatia

Brilliant late winnet from south....feels like that nickname needs an s.....like saying math instead of maths

The Dogs have always had precidence over them forever and a day......
There were times I recall back in the early days they were going to get pushed out somehow didn't happen, was always going to happen.
TBH I'm staggered there isn't another suitable ground instead of Kogarah.
Its way too big for them - trouble is there isn't many other suitable offerings/grounds near their area.

May get a few disagreeing here but im not a fan of the forced ethnic vibe that Olympic are going for. The Greek national anthem is pointless, Greek dancing is pointless, and whilst im at it Andy Paschalidis trying to chuck in as many Greek words as possible every time he interviewed someone was cringe particularly as they were all non greeks lol. The guy was popular back in the day because he was a great commentator and a total pro when interviewing players/coaches. Today was too clown like i thought.

Respect the past, never hide who you are, but above all the nod to these clubs ethnicity needs to feel and be organic. Not that forced shit we saw here. I find it worse coming from Olympic with the community having completely abandoned them anyway. Anyone in Sydney that wants to feel Greek already rocked up to pretty boys concert last week.

Interesting thoughts. Greek anthem seems the strangest parts of that to me.

Whatever they are doing doesnt seem to be as successful off the pitch as south and preston. That might have to do with the health of the two npls tho

For a start they can sort out the on field stuff. How about less 80s throwbacks and actually do something about the coach whose been there for years and done absolutely nothing?
to be fair I don't recall sydney olympic doing much on the field (apart from playing brett emerton) but I don't know that much of the nsl era

To me they were always a club that had pretty high standards. This run they're on with Haliti would not have been tolerated back in the day.
this looks pretty mediocre?

Finished outside the top 6 16 times of the 27 years they were in the nsl

being away I hadn't seen any coverage - that SO pardon the pun.
Good feedback southmelb. Yer don't need the anthem for starters.
Graz SO have struggled for crowds for years now, worse than most of our traditional NPL's from my perspective.
They have had alot of management issues for decade or so, the ground political issues as well.
They have been very inconsistant in the league - bundle those together doesn't enhance supporters especially management one. (Papas fraud issue, player payment issues) amongst other things.....
I don't think imo VNPL is any healthier than FNSW's just that the main diff focus/media wise was ol Preston getting back up great good feel storey whereas we watched a unknown minnow ala Spirit gain promotion season before and this season win the Prem.
Focus has been alot because of SMH crap season followed by SU's crap season as well but the Bergs Cup run was big gaining Vnpl focus incl Avondale.

when was the last time a npl nsw side beat a vpl side in the oz cup? It also seems that they have had the wood on the nsw npl this championship

How many levels in npl vic are connected by p&r. I just got told it was 10 levels compared to just 3 connected levels in NSW. If true, that surely makes a big difference

Man, I'm not good on retaining results wise without spending time on the net reviewing it all.
Also re levels I hope someone more informed/tuned can break it down and post.
All I know is 2/3 seasons back we had 4 NPL levels.
We consolidated that to 3 so as we had 16 Club comps - P/R is connected that I know of right down as far I know.
Below the NPL's is YL U13 to 18's.
Suss this out
16 team divisions is brilliant as it means a 30 game season

Apparently vic connected 10 divisions, would like to hear someone confirm. But if so that would explain their improvement

I really don’t see the point of the Greek national anthem being played or the halftime Greek dancing either. That’s from the 1980s where it belongs.

Agree with points raised by others. South doesn’t hide the Greek roots of the club, but the Hellas name and chant grows organically nor is it contrived. There are many ways to celebrate your past and heritage- through the use of heritage strips, heritage merchandise, legends matches, engaging local Greek suburban clubs for instance.

To be honest I was expecting a far larger crowd in attendance than 1400. About 7-10% of that crowd would have been South supporters.
