Sign Up Now!Are we rating them on when the players were actually in the Australian leagues, not overall career? Like, A-League Kewell, not EPL Kewell? The top 11 nsl vs top a league 11

Yeah I think that's fair. Are we rating them on when the players were actually in the Australian leagues, not overall career? Like, A-League Kewell, not EPL Kewell?
If I look at old note books from uni you can tell when I got bored because its basically just a bunch of best XIs in different formations halfway through my lecture notes.I get way too much joy out of making best of all time xis. Will get back to this after recording
Career wise doesn't really work. You would have Kewell, Cahill, Culina, Neil and Grella even, in the Aleague side.going aussies only and looking at career rather than how they did while still in the nsl

Yeah maybe have they can only play for the first league they played inCareer wise doesn't really work. You would have Kewell, Cahill, Culina, Neil and Grella even, in the Aleague side.
I'd have Rhyan Grant ahead of Jamieson, Rogic ahead of Mrdja, Leckie ahead of Azani. This is great - I interpreted it as the first league they played in, so excluding any of the GG that played in the A-League. I had to mangle the NSL formation a bit to fit some fantastic players in...I remember when Farina came back to Oz after 10 or so years in Belgium etc, and took the Brisbane Strikers from also-rans to winning the GF in front of 40k fans at Suncorp. Domestic Oz football in the mid-90s pulling 40k? Only other time it happened were the two GFs at Subiaco. So I had to have Farina in there. And Colosimo might have been one of our greatest ever midfielders, if Andy Cole hadn't committed grievous bodily harm against him at Homebush - probably a controversial inclusion.
NSL XI
------------------Bosnich--------------------
Emerton-----Ivanovic-----Lazaridis
-------------------Colosimo-----------------
Bresciano---Culina---Zelic---Farina
----------------Viduka----Mori--------------
I went outside of my own rules for one player in the A-League XI - Nik Mrdja. What a fantastically skilled player he was, and another one who I think would've had a fantastic career for the Socceroos if injuries hadn't curtailed him. Pretty sure he did play in both the NSL and A-League. The weird alignment of Brosque and Thompson is intentional, Brosque operating just behind the main striker.
A-League XI
--------------------Galekovic-----------------------------------
Jamieson----Spiranovic----Sainsbury----J.Bos
-----------------------Mooy-------------------------------------
Goodwin----McGree---Mrdja----Arzani-----------
-----------------Brosque--------------------------------------
--------------------------------A.Thompson---------------
Who would win? The NSL XI, in a close one, no doubt.
Mcgree is a great shout and compmetely forgot about him in my midfield! This is great - I interpreted it as the first league they played in, so excluding any of the GG that played in the A-League. Leckie is very underrated, he was in the 2015 Asian cup winning squad, he scored the winner against Denmark in the World cup, he played in Germany for many years.I'd have Rhyan Grant ahead of Jamieson, Rogic ahead of Mrdja, Leckie ahead of Azani.
3 decent seasons in the bundesliga probably puts him as the 2nd best right winger we have ever produced (taking bresc as a left winger)Leckie is very underrated, he was in the 2015 Asian cup winning squad, he scored the winner against Denmark in the World cup, he played in Germany for many years.
Thats a much harder list but would be interested in seeing itWhen I think of NSL v AL I think of guys that spent the best part of their careers here not overseas. Ivanovic, Tobin, Boutsianis, Mori, Despotovski from the NSL. Galekovic, Thompson, Goodwin from the AL.
Sorry mate, not really my cup of tea... Different players suited to different eras, different strengths against different lineups... I cant even decide on South's best ever IX let alone a NSL top one...Career(ish) AL XI
Goodwin - Thompson - Leckie
Brosque
Milligan - McKay
Carney - Ognenovski - Wilkinson - Franjic
Galekovic
Fun AL XI
Goodwin - Thompson - IrankundaI'd love to see some of the NSL best XIs from LFC, Mono, the guys that watched a lot of it.
Rogic
Mooy - Jedinak
Bos - Ognenovski - Wilkinson - Muscat
Galekovic
Who were some of the best players from that era in your opinionSorry mate, not really my cup of tea... Different players suited to different eras, different strengths against different lineups... I cant even decide on South's best ever IX let alone a NSL top one...![]()
