Matildas looked sluggish and inaccurate. It was as frustrating a game as I can remember with passes going out untouched, passes direct to Welsh players, and passes back to nobody except the Welsh forwards streaming onto it.
Was the pitch heavy (aside from it looking like a genuine cow paddock with all the hoof marks)? At times it looked and sounded like they were trying to kick a medicine ball.
Most of our promising build up was lost to slow thinking with the time between receiving and moving the ball on giving Wales the chance to shut down either the player or the passing lane. The team needs a heap of time together to get back in the groove. Plenty of moments of good play but most of them were backed up by something poor.
Wales played some awful physical contact football in the first half - knocking our players over and thumping into them. It took us ages to get any momentum after the first minutes and we kept putting ourselves under pressure and in peril.
We got the win against a highly motivated opponent, which is no small thing, but we really made it hard on ourselves.
