Ground Hopping

Just saw this thread. I got back from Europe a few weeks ago and I decided to create a Google Map of all the football stadiums I've visited. Some may say I have too much time on my hands.

Last year friends of ours, foodie types got their long service, went to Italy and rented an Airbnb farmhouse in Tuscany for 2 months. Well he's a fly in fly out mining engineer and she's a radiologist with Qld Health so plenty of coin.

Spent September and October there and loved every minute of the experience. I asked him did you get to any football matches?

"Err no...didn't really think about it....."

What!! Went to Italy for 2 months and didn't experience Calcio??

I'd have spent my Sunday’s going through the entire club roster of Tuscany!!!

I was at a dinner party and the husband of one of my wife's friends had to fly to Milan two years ago for a conference, spent 2 weeks in the city and was regaling us with stories of how one weekend a whole bunch of Italians were making too much noise outside his hotel room and setting off flares... two massive groups were taunting each other outside apparently, red and blacks vs blue and blacks........ looked at me with surprise when I started tearing up at the missed opportunity..

One of those guys. As soon as someone says they don't watch football or even worse any sport I tune out they need to have something bloody else that's interesting to say lol

Added a Europa league qualifier to my record in August.

Coming back from Europe really hits home how unfortunate our time zone is! Was watching champions league and Europa league games at 9-10pm on a weekday.. just magical especially when you add in good company and plenty of alcohol!

Got started with my first of the 92 today at Cardiff City Stadium, quite a good ground for League One but am there for an international friendly.

Looking forward to visiting this beauty in a couple of years time @Hellenic_blue&white , its actually real, can you believe it?

In the most typical of Grk ways and like the Olympics i have no doubt that an hour before 1st kick off at that ground and we will still be painting or finsihing some works off..... that we havnt found any relics yet to shift thw build over a few kms... lol

Cant wait though, but will miss Leoforos!

Leoforos will ALWAYS be special, but it is falling apart man..... To be a big club again this move had to happen...

Drove past Inverness ground and it's actually on the outer near a main road and bridge it just looked a nice ground. The club has had massive issues. I'll have to check the other Scottish grounds mentioned.

Havelse, which is a tram stop on the edge of Hannover currently play in the 3rd tier. Pretty big for a small place but it may even have more people than Hoffenheim.

They're currently building new stands and for a place smaller than Erina oval it's impressive what can be put together. Of course the traffic would be an absolute nightmare but I always imagined what a boutique ground with 15k would look like on Erina oval when kicking about as a kid.

Funny when you meet types who react very positively to a football opening and you think 'hang on, my knowledge and experience may be tested here'.

Got an English friend who's a massive Carlisle supporter and people will ask if he's been to certain grounds and he'll have an anecdote for most.

Carlisle are one of those clubs who seem to have been in the second third, fourth or fifth tier at some point or another.

And the fans have a lot of long journeys to contend with.

Carlisle were briefly in the first division at one point, mid 70’s (1974?) from memory.

That's right. They came up from the then second division with Middlesbrough in 73/74.

They are now a non league club and there can't be too many non league clubs in the English pyramid system that were once a top division club. At least not in the years following WW2.

I believe Bolton was the answer to a team that had been in all 4 tiers in the Premier League era. Swindon and Oldham too. Oldham did go down to the fifth tier at a point.

Didn't want to start a tifo thread. Dortmund fans with a letter regarding the proposed law changes for stadiums in regards to personalised ticketing and the goal of reducing police numbers by instilling the peaceful culture.

Unfortunately the dickhead ultras, no denying the noise they make, want to insist if pyros, charging opposing fans and wearing balaclavas.
