changes to capital football

crikey, they were also an nst hopeful too

that's a big club to lose. I know a lot of people think we have a lot of participants, but we don't and we can't afford to lose 2k of them

do you think this has been partly due to the new standards required by capital football?
From whats coming out perhaps i need to give FA more credit as it seems correct in its stringent financial rules for NST applications, this club wouldnt have lasted half a season h&a.

Seems a necessary Canberra spot overall in current comp but more so a h&a would be neither smart nor sustainable.. canberra cosmos vibes yet again.

Same as people told all the Monaro players, etc - there's other clubs to go and play for. Like I said earlier, I have no sympathy for them due to the fact that:
  • They gaslit and threatened media outlets (or social media pages) reporting on this before they made their statements
  • They pushed through the review (being one of the four clubs not aligning to push Capital Football to postpone a year
  • This is a situation they've found themselves in countless times before.
Like I said earlier, there's other clubs to go to. There's two clubs that Capital Football removed in Canberra that don't have a full youth program (one given an exemption, and one passed over for promotion because "Capital Football had their doubts about setting one up within 12 months") that players can join. In fact - one of them is the original "West Woden Juventus" that Gungahlin United was formed to give that club a more professional base in the late 90s.

No - I think they've finally succumbed to the public pressure with this one - there was a lot of talk about Gungahlin's financials - I've been alluding to it for about 12 months. Now it's out in the open, and given the way the tried to rule with an iron fist their review outcomes, they really had no choice

Only thing I have to say bad about the FA in regards to the Championship at the moment (assuming they get the H&A format underway in the next 2 years) is the crowd control issues that plagued APIA v SU.

Money is an issue in Canberra - It's happened with Gungahlin. Capital Football have been struggling to run Canberra United's W-League team - and the licence from the APL is still yet to find a buyer. It's kind of like there was a bubble in Canberra that burst around the time Macarthur + Western United were introduced:
  • A-League had an overseas backer/football club ready to go that they passed on
  • NPL and CPL had just expanded - but was then modified in what could be seen as a negative way (though not as bad as this time round)
And thus, the bubble burst.

Yep its a case of suck it up Gunners.
Monaro boys were told by everyone "just trial at other clubs and get a spot in already established teams with a reduced NPL player base. Shouldn't have been relegated in the first place blah blah blah blah blah ass".

Sweet karma given Gungahlin were 1 of the 4 clubs that didn't oppose the NPL Review.
That is tasteless and sad from Monaro.

From the information I have got, the most disappointing thing is Gungahlin were accepting non refundable early offer deposits of $600 just a mere two days before the collapse!!!

How will Capital Football react to their own incompetence to allow hundreds families to have $600 'stolen' from them by the club. Will CF get the money back so those players can afford to play for other clubs? or will they wave their own fees for these players? They allowed this problem to happen.

Do we continue to have confidence in the CF board?

Apropos of nothing I'm playing football at the Australian masters at the Majura grounds this week and reffing a few matches.

What's the story with pink ref shirts?! I beg your pardon.

I mean.. it's a case of 'you reap what you sow" to be honest

The pink ref shirts were - at least when I got mine - a training/warm-up shirt. As far as I'm aware, our match shirts are still either blue, black or yellow

I did hear this too - despicable if that's the case.

Well.. goes back to the main premise from this thread.. should we ever have had confidence in the board?

Great points that I read via Facebook (which you may have already seen, as this is where I've seen the '$600' story):
This is why Gungahlin United Football Club will always be the biggest casualty of the NPL Review. Even though it didn't destroy them directly, without the review, they would still be an NPL Club. Working towards the payment of their debts while still servicing more than 2000 players.

The review should have been stopped in its tracks the minute it was released because when you look around, all you see is destruction.

Nothing is better because of this review. And yet, somehow the board members remain.

I'd come say hi today, but I'm battling some fuck-off flu of some sort

Training or not get on board with red shirts. Very authoritative. I pushed hard to get to get red in our association and they listened.

In order of preference, black, red, blue, yellow.

I have some background information that confirms the $600 is 100% a fact, no debate. They many not have been planning to fold, but they accepted non refundable money while knowing the clubs demise was a real possibility.

I still believe reviews of the system is always good every few years. Like imagine if Gungahlin went unchecked for another 5 years!! the debt would be over a million!!!

Nothing wrong with ripping down things (clubs) that are broken. You can't build a family house on the uncleared ruins of a crack den.

And yet, Capital Football let it happen for years on end - why is the board still in place? The Canberra Times timeline on this is pretty damning - both of Gungahlin United and Capital Football.

Canberra's biggest club has collapsed. This is the inside story of how it happened and a $550k debt

I will say from all I have heard I believe the interim board did the best they could with what they were handed.
Totally agree, you have to wonder how much has been hidden away by the previous board/treasurer. Would of taken time for the interim board to discover how bad things were. Takes time to get access to finance systems for invoicing, bank accounts, documents and emails. I guess I was really referring to that the interim board should of taken over leadership sooner.
