Socceroos vs Canada/USA Oct 25

That was in the year he was voted best player in the AL and also led the CCM to an Asian trophy.

He was the senior partner (out of he and Balard) and Balard is now one of the first picked.

Superb player being ripped off by Popa's apart-height policy.

Ooh, very nice.

I have said when he has been good he's been good. It's just it's been rare over the years

His record speaks for itself.

You cannot tell me with a straight face he should have put that pass out for a corner
His record stacks up pretty well with Schwarzer at both club and country - would have been better than it is if Ange had picked defenders that didn't routinely allow offsides at the world cup - but I guess if your main job as a defender is to pass to Timmy that's fine. Always played at a higher level than Izzo or for that matter Langerak(although he did a good impression of Zelko and Jess Van Stratton sitting on the bench behind an obvious no 1 and pickking up the money. This sounds very like the "Langerak should be No. 1" chat

I think we need to remember how poor Schwarzer was around 2002-mid 2005. He went world class from then I. Was it an Iraq friendly where Elrich scored and Schwarzer was chipped. I felt he always conceded so poorly. Uruguay away 2001 was rough viewing too. Maybe not his fault but at the time I felt Kalac was a decent option also.

The only time Langerak came close was during his time in Japan where he was in excellent form. By then he'd gone through 4 coaches, had national team chances and not taken them.

One game forgotten is the Hungary friendly where Ryan firmly held the line in the first half. Jones had the second. Colombia in London was Jones and Vukovic.

There was a time where Vukovic was in just as good form as Izzo. I'm glad all 3 keepers have been playing well at club level.

Pretty sure D'Agostino had been injured and hadn't played too much. It's just baffling how starts are given to some fringe players like this. Think about it, an away friendly in the USA and that's who we to with.

Really struggling to see O'Neill contributions. I can't stand anonymous midfielder.

Vukovic is a far better keeper than Izzo

But back to Ryan and Izzo.

Izzo is better at club level this season, better at club level playing at higher levels and has pretty impressive stats at national level and has played 100 games overall vs 3 friendlies.

Argentina media reported 5 hours ago that the Australia game is off. It may not be official though. I really hope it is.

Popovic said post game that we have some options for November. We'd better get an announcement on.

Little fib by Popa in the post press conference. Said we were near the bottom of pot 3 when he took over. We were ranked at 26 - not sure what we are after the loss but probably very similar.

Mr C, why do you think he's playing level below Balard though ?
Cream bubbles to the top whats happenned from your outlook ?
If this was a former MVC player getting picked from Eredivisie 2, people would be screaming about 'favourites' and 'bias'. Somehow when it's Nisbit, must be because he is unfairly treated.
Balard actually shows how easy/hard it is to get selected. If Nisbit was playing at this level each week he would have been picked at some point. It's not a Popa problem, either all of football is underrating him, or people need to accept he is a good Aliga player. It's probably the latter.

Actually here is my Nisbit career prediction comparison. Mitch Duke.

Good Aleague seasons, wins a title with a tiny club, feel good story. Goes overseas to a lower tier level, does okay. Similar so far.
About 28 comes back to a proper club, WSW - beating heart of Aus football. Couple of seasons there, foot in the door for the socceroos. Back overseas to Asia at a successful/big club, KSA maybe, seems like a petrodollars kind of guy. Meanwhile circumstances arise where because he makes the most of his talent, work ethic etc, he becomes a semi-regular for the socceroos in his early thirties.

Takes Duke's mantle as the most hated socceroo as everyone is sure there are better options, meanwhile has 50 caps.

There we go, the Mitch Duke of the Australian midfield over the next 8 years. I called it first.

I'm sure Nizz would settle for that.

It was taking the piss a bit of course. But that would be a fantastic career for him (similar to Duke) and one I think is realistic because the mentality aspects seem very similar to me. Would take him in a second at WS.

I agree with this, although I think Nisbet is better than Eredivisie 2.

I remember watching a recent interview with Maty think it was prior to these games was about the move to Spain etc.

He didn't look like he had that "drive" or that upbeat mood that I'm used to seeing.

He has moved all over the world the last 5 years. Maybe he has fallen out of love with the game a bit. He also has a toddler which can make things rough those first months.

I hope he comes good by the WC.

Some good mentions CS re Nisbet.
lol about Duke being the most hated though you mentioned you were talking the piss a little - by the way I think Boyle has taken that mantle ???
Quicky, if he is better than E2 well why hasn't he been picked up ? IF I recall right he was in limbo quite sometime after Ross County that wasn't great as well for him.
No doubt he's good midfieler, maybe his CCM 2 odd great seasons were his peaks ? maybe he is a top ALiga player as CS finished with.
Ala Caceras so to speak, stay home and reap the rewards here and start up 25+ games.

Yeah I would think so. At least Eredivisie 1, low to mid table team. But I don't think he is 2 or 3 levels below his ability. He isn't a Top 5 League starter being missed by the whole world, as such, it isn't any kind of injustice when he misses out for Aus, it's just reality.

I hope Nisbit pushes further than Caceras, but nothing wrong with his career.

My real point with the Duke comparison is to point out - if Nisbit's career path from here matched Duke's it would be a great achievement. At the same time, no one has ever cried out demanding Duke be selected for the socceroos, upset when he missed out. Yet here we are with Nisbit.

I was more talking about his clubs have never seemed to have much confidence in him.

I don't want to out him down, it's just frustrating when people act like he is the messiah for us and his position is concrete.

I reckon during the game I copped messages from 2 or 3 different people saying 'why tehe fuck is Ryan always rooted to the spot watching the ball go in'.

The team feels shaky with him. I think a lot share that sentiment.
