The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

What a friggin long range goal !
I’m loving this championship so so good finally having NPL back in the limelight crowds or not it’s about the games roots and the young up comers having a new dream !

@Glenardo ... ahh the magic of away days, What a great sight!! Wish there was more of a presence though!
Better than nothing..maybe even better than Avondale’s home support tbh ;) in all seriousness though, I’m a realist, Marconi has never been known for having the best travelling support, even in the absolute heyday. possibly more so than any other club I feel as though the clubs identity and the physical club itself as a community hub have always been inextricably linked. good on those who went down

South Melbourne on the other hand have always been known for strong travelling support
To be fair, Olympic cant claim to have had more travellers, they just lucky enough to have made some noise bc they scored. Its logical still as everyone is still getting their bearings regarding this comp.. finals will show fans bases till then only home fans will shine. We get thatbright the travelling will come with time!

I was fortunate enough to see the jersey up close at end of game, its impressive!

The best travelling support will come from south Melbourne, Sydney united and Preston imo.

Even the bigger A league clubs only get handful of people travelling interstate most games apart from when they make a point of organising a big away trip

Sydney united were toothless going forward this season with their best team on the park, let alone now without their captain etc They really need to sort the situation out up front if they’re going to start to get some success on the field.

Re Sydney united..that’s what happens when you can’t make good enough use of your territorial advantage. Not sure why they didn’t atleast attempt to rectify the situation during the transfer window

All in all, opening weekend of the championship would surely be deemed a success. At the very least there was a solid amount of interest in the comp. As I’ve said, not perfect re the format but atleast there’s now something tangible to build upon rather than just continually delaying. If the last few years have shown anything re western united etc it’s that it’s one thing to debate the pros and cons of something prior to its inception, it’s another thing to actively abort it once it’s a reality. You’d imagine given the interest and reception it’s received from the football community that it would be a hard/controversial sell to now actively kill it and not progress forward from here

In terms of south travelling i dont think there will be much for the Newcastle game. The time and flights aswell as prices are very awkward.
I dare say it’s a safe bet your best showing will be away v Olympic. Hopefully everything aligns on and off the field and there’s a good crowd in. Will try to get there myself.

10 year ago south played away in the Australia cup mid week v palm beach I believe from memory on the Gold Coast. They brought a solid little group who sang all game. That was before the renaissance of the npls. Not many other clubs let alone traditional clubs would have been able to do that

Well that felt like a loss.

a fluke cross shot FFS in the 93rd min.

thats our championship done, cant beat the worst team in the group.

Shabow went off injured in the first half, and we signed shit players going forward, Cimenti can fuck off back to marconi
