Matildas friendlies in October 2025

https://matildas.com.au/news/commbank-matildas-squad-confirmed-october-fifa-international-window

The 24-player Matildas travelling squad for the October international window has been named. Cortnee Vine and Katrina Gorry return to the squad, as does Sam Kerr. Mary Fowler and Tameka Yallop remain unavailable for selection due to injury.
It stands out to me how little discussion there is about selections in the Matildas squads that are named. There is very little debate about players missing out, controversial selections, etc. Each squad pretty much picks itself. This is not a good situation, it shows the extreme lack of depth in the playing ranks in Australian women's football.

Looking at the players selected you can almost say that the team picks itself? Holly Macnamara the only A-Leagues player named. Anyone you think deserves a spot? Agree, it does show a worrying lack of depth!

Jacynta Gala, Daniela Galić, Jess Nash and Charlize Rule shoulda been added but otherwise it’s a near perfect squad.

I like all four of them, but who would you have left out so they could be included?

We'll see after the friendlies but to pick the Asian Cup squad I'd try and squeeze in as many young players as possible. Only 23 can make it.

Sharn Freier, Chloe Lincoln and Jessika Nash should have been included in the squad with Emily van Egmond omitted but other than that I think the squad is fairly solid.

I think fans have been talking about this. The problem is that it doesn't change overnight. Tony didn't really bring those depth players through and get them up to speed, so Joe is probably having to go back to developing them outside of the main squad.

Yep, no doubt Gustavsson was a considerable handbrake to the development of future national team players.

Starting XI for the Matildas in their friendly against Wales has been named. Hayley Raso starts her hundredth game for the Tillies as captain. Sam Kerr starts in the forward line. Teagan Micah between the sticks.
