U20 WC 2025 Australia match thread

"Slave - where's my bloody soapbox?"

That is the KORB mentality that I would like to see gone.

This is not a Forum By Invitation and much as some like the idea it is not an elitist group - it is a welcoming and accepting Public forum. Anyone who wants to honestly comment on something about football has the right and freedom to do so.

Who cares if someone misses the point when they make a comment - that's where members can respectfully refute anything they disagree with - and better yet with the courtesy to explain why they think differently.

We aren't born knowing about football and our first observations may not meet with the personal acceptance levels of some experts. Who bloody cares? You can use your greater knowledge, without appearing as a guru or droning tosser, to simply make relevant comments and guide a noob to understand something a little better.

What does it hurt to be respectful or give a little time and effort to acknowledge someone who has made the effort to think and post?

For anyone relatively new to football, what are they going to see that draws them back? It is precisely those moments of play like Richie mentioned where a player glides through opposition players or where a defender makes that critical tackle when it looks like all is lost that captures the spirit of a sports fan. I applaud Richie's observation and braveness to post it.

@Richie - I wouldn't be looking for an apology mate. It was merely a reaction at the time and not worth taking under your skin ;). Post on as you see fit.

"Now Slave - put this bloody soapbox where I can find it quicker next time".
Had to ask ai about korb lol

Is it spot on

Korb is a slang term primarily used in German, where it refers to a romantic rejection. If someone asks you out on a date and you say no, you've "given them a Korb" (einen Korb geben), or they've "gotten a Korb" (einen Korb kriegen). It's like being turned down or "dumped" in a casual sense. This comes from an old custom where a suitor would climb a ladder to a woman's window to court her, and if she rejected him, she'd lower him back down in a basket (Korb) instead—essentially sending him away empty-handed. Today, it's a common idiom in everyday German conversation, especially around dating. In English, there aren't strong slang matches for "korb," but Urban Dictionary has niche entries like an "aggressive form of Kirby" (a video game character) or a reference to an old online forum group—though those are obscure and not widely used.

What in the ever-loving fck does 'KORB' mean❓
Bloody youngfellers!

My memory of it is that Knights of the Round Ball (KORB) was an 'elitist' invitation forum.

If anyone remember differently please say so - I noticed it made an appearance in the Green and Gold poll thread on historic forums so maybe someone else remembers more.

Some years later a similar attempt was made to lure 'intelligent' posters away from 442 Forum. It was considered a badge of honour to have rejected the elitist call up.

Edit: It has a surprisingly low/non-existent profile as I google it now.

I have loved cricket ever since I could walk but didn't start to fall in love with football until around 12 years old...now I think I love both in equal measure.

It's literally the world game!! All and many are welcome!

Sports fan RIMB, thats me as for more than 50 yrs I've followed Aussie sport, the St George Dragons, The Kangaroos, The Baggy Greens, The Aussie Dolphins (swimming) more recently the Socceroos and Matildas, golf, hockey, sailing. Who will ever forget the huge lift in spirit they felt after Australia 2s come from behind win in 1983 to be the first non Yank team to win the America Cup. I am always glued to the gogglebox at every Olympics and Comm Games and how many of you were invited to attend Sydney 2000 live in my home town when paying for it was out of our reach. Cathy Freeman lighting the cauldron and feeling enormous pride when singing We Are Australian at the Closing Ceremony with 60 K others, are only two of many memories I will cherish all my days.

Yep pretty similar, Dragons supporter too, though not much these days, more SFC these days, prefer Wallabies to kangaroos, the baggy green, Test matches are the best, Love my Dolphins & swimming in Olympics & Comm games, love my golf, my dad played hockey, so always had interest there, but the biggest passion has always been Socceroos, ever since my Dad woke me up in the wee hours of 1974 to watch the World cup, Warren, Abonyi, Alston, Big Dougie, Manfred, I was hooked.

Poll on the topic we brought up on our pod

If you had the final say, how would improve you improve our youth development. You can only choose 1:

1)full time youth set up at a league academies including strength and conditioning coaches

2) a league expands to 16+ teams with a 30+ game season

3) home and away nst

4) home and away nyl (on top of b teams in the npl)

5) academies that go lower than u13s perhaps to u6

As much as I would love to have 2) and 3), if the remit is to improve our youth development it would be hard to go past 4) with a proper home and away NYL.

As someone with that coachs my son at U6 I don't think bringing the younger age group into academies is the answer.

If 3) is joining the pro-rel pyramid with the second tier then that also could be my choice as that will inevitably give more opportunities to younger players and hopefully create more motivation to get their club to the top.

Decent viewing, I haven't had any issues watching group stage matches in Aus
Welcome to the forum, Medellin.

Saw it late after you posted, but you were getting trolled by a notorious cyberbully about KNVB views. He has since been banned.

Glad to see you stick around.
