This appeared on my twitter feed which I don't normally look at much.

Football 360 a news and digital content aggregater I think from a digital company going by the name of GoldenBoot media

Their mission statement....

we want to build a safe space, a community, a one-stop shop for football fans.

Looks like David Weiner is behind this project, the guy formerly from Optus Sports and he who blew all the A League digital content money on the 'KeepUp' fiasco.

You can't keep a good man down as rhe saying goes....😵‍💫

No thanks, football forums don't need to be disrupted, G&G is fine for me :)

We're going to have to see what it actually looks like but I think it'll be some sort of aggregated football news site with maybe some analysis and opinion pieces, digital content streaming such as video clips and perhaps a few podcasts...

Which was basically what 'Keep Up' David Weiner's last project was....

The one that costs the A League millions of dollars to no avail...

The problem with Keep Up was that because it was heavily financed by the A League, the journalism produced on the site was uncritical PR and therefore typically low-quality. That said, there were stories about players/clubs being produced that otherwise wouldn't be getting covered.

Also there was probably too much focus on overseas football, something which is available ad nauseum if you've got an internet connection. It should have been completely Australian football - Grassroots through to Socceroo's and Matilda's and any overseas focus should only have been on 'Aussie's Abroad'...

With a fans on the ground led message board like G & G, the reality is you'll be getting most of this news and views stuff covered, often from social media platforms, or in other word's 'the horses mouth' before the professional journalists on Keep Up or Football 360 website get it past their snooty editors.

Also I've noticed that a lot of these professionally developed football news and views platforms start off good but nearly all go to shyte eventually.

When the paid subscription American sports platform ' The Athletic' opened a UK subsidiary focusing predominantly on the Premier League and a bit of European football around the edges it was a breath of fresh air.

I happily paid my $50 annual subscription fee and was easily getting at least half a dozen long form articles, interviews and opinion pieces a day. I don’t mind paying for high quality journalism.

But once the New York Times bought out the original start up owners the platform started to reduce it's output of high quality long form pieces and replaced them with the kind of 250 word content you get free on BBC, Sky Sports or Soccernet....

I thought the NYT would have enhanced the quality of The Athletic but it has gotten worse and worse by the day and must be on it's last legs as a paid subscription model.

I'm not exactly sure they are launching a forum. I believe it will be focusing it's attention on journalism.

Anyway we find out tomorrow

Perhaps, but if it is anything like The Roar, I'm personally not interested... The Australian Championship is 3 days away and not ONE article or mention of it over there? Instead countless random EPL threads .... boring.

I agree. To engage the Australian football fan via any news media and grow that media spectrum you're going.to have to have a predominantly strong focus on the Australian domestic game. Grass roots football to A League...

If like me you also want to read about English and or European football too then click onto one of the 6000 or so sports and newspaper websites that are already covering that...

Also I think that The Roar is in bit of a financial crisis....

Dear readers of The Roar,

Due to issues beyond the control of our editorial team we are unable to publish several regular contributions until further notice.

This includes work from all of our paid freelancers and experts.

We will continue to produce Roar of The Crowd material submitted to us, and the editors will continue to work as usual.

I understand how disappointing this will be for regular readers, and the affected freelancers. As The Roar editor it’s a disappointment that I share.

My sincere hope is that we can restore normal service soon.

Regards,

Tony

I haven't seen anything from Brisbane football writer Mike Tuckerman for a while.

Tuckerman left about six months ago……….
Okay thanks. I thought he was just taking a sabbatical during the A League off season. He's been by far the best football writer on there.

What a shame. But I guess if they are laying off all their freelancers then he'd be done anyway.

Has he popped up anywhere else?

we should encourage him to join us - have a Ask Tuckerman Thread :)

When I hear 360 I think of bet365 or whatever it is so I lose interest. Can't they go for something Australian

Fitting for Australian football going in circles. Like ex greens minister Bärbock 'Putin needs to do a 360 turn and leave Ukraine.'

To think so much money was blown on Keep Up and now this company is starting, you'd think having a shot at decent content won't come cheaply.

There are many good contributors out there but they won't work for less. Getting some of the big names would be a real coup but I'm not sure the income streams coming back in to fund the site will necessarily cover that.

People are very content staying here or on reddit or wherever else.

Don’t know what he is doing now. Agree that he was the best football writer.
