U20 WC 2025 Australia match thread

fkkkk another good chance

Look many pf our players put money on sportbets

We continue to dominate possession with several missed shots on goal.

Looks like if there are no GK
Toure still couldn’t score
That was how bad he is

Look how much this tournament meant to the Cubans, if only we showed that much passion against Italy and argentina

Thought we started well then it kind of ran away from us. The subs didn't really help

Australia's performance in the last half hour or so, when the play became very open, was pathetic. Nobody knew how to score, even when two on to one! Toure hopeless. And they allowed the Cubans to have too many attacks.
Cuban keeper was a hero; No-one really outstanding for us, and I would be surprised if any of this lot ever became senior Socceroos.

Scything run by our boy and as he sets himself to shoot he is pushed to the turf.
Who made that incursion. He looks elusive, is good on his feet and had the defense cut to shreds. Was a penalty due as he was clearly shoved which made him lose his balance.

Ok..

So I’ve calmed down just a little..

Honestly I didn’t think we would be in this situation where we would beat Cuba (and have the chances to absolutely destroy them) and have to wait on results from other groups to progress.. so that’s a positive!

It’s the Italy game for me.. That game put us on the back foot from the start..
Knowing what we know about both Jovanovic and Toure, that was a massive risk to play them when both Agosti and Caputo had been playing senior minutes prior to the squad being finalised.

We get a point against Italy, we’re through.. But I honestly think we were better value than the Italians, and a second placed finish was very much tenable.

Positives out of this group based on performance..

Okon-Engstler, really good in tight, always reliable to take the pressure off.

James Overy, for I think our youngest player, he was incredible at RB, massive engine and very smart, that pass to Max was beautiful.

Daniel Bennie… take the Italy miss out of it, he was so hard to handle for all opposition players, just too strong and quick, probably one that will likely have suitors…

Max Caputo, there probably just because of the two goals, but I thought he was very physical which neither Toure or Jovanovic could muster. But definitely softened up the Cuba defence, and hold up play was underrated.

Honourable mentions to Pearman and Herrington.. I think Roar have stuffed up letting him go to the MLS..

It can’t be said too often for mine, but any self-respecting 🇦🇺 player shouldn’t be aiming to ply their trade in that joke of a league.

I guess we're all big Colombia fans tomorrow. Need them to win big tomorrow so we go through. Reminds me of when we needed them to beat Canada for the Tillies to go through at the Olympics.

Who is ranked higher out of us and Egypt if it stays 2-0?
I'll get to that in a second, because there is a scenario where that could happen with Nigeria.

I guess we're all big Colombia fans tomorrow. Need them to win big tomorrow so we go through. Reminds me of when we needed them to beat Canada for the Tillies to go through at the Olympics.

So, end result is, we need either of these to happen next:
  • Colombia to defeat Nigeria by 2 or more goals.
    • specifically a 3-1 Colombia victory will see goal difference, for and against equal which means the following tiebreakers would be applied. I'll break these down at the end too:
      • fair play points:
        • first yellow card: –1 point;
        • indirect red card (second yellow card): –3 points;
        • direct red card: –4 points;
        • yellow card and direct red card: –5 points;
      • drawing of lots.
  • USA to defeat South Africa by 7 or more goals.
  • New Caledonia to defeat France. Any scoreline would do, because we'd be ahead of either New Caledonia or France in that instance, as this would guarantee South Africa finishes in 2nd place (I believe)

As for the head to head fair play points with us and Nigeria (and I'll throw Egypt in there as well, since it was close)
  1. Australia - 4 points (4 yellow cards)
  2. Nigeria - 5 points (5 yellow cards)
  3. Egypt - 5 points (5 yellow cards)
So, this means in the instance that Colombia wins by 3-1, resulting in a tied goal difference, goals scored, and goals conceded, Australia will advance, as Nigeria have already accumulated more yellow cards.
