Are we really that sure that the players at ManUre are better than those at Forest??

Is an aging Casemiro better than Douglas Luiz?
Mason Mount better than wonderkid Elliott Anderson?
Dolph Lundgren lookalike Sesko a better goalscorer than Igor Jesus?
Murillo and Milenkovic better than......United's entire backline?!?

I don't think it's that cut and dry and that club is poison since Fergie left...even Ange wouldn't be immune.

Man Utd wouldn't hire someone who was sacked by Spurs.

Ange's mistake was leaving Celtic a year too early. If he'd stayed in Scotland and won another double or treble, Kenny would have got him the Liverpool job when Klopp retired.

This is why I’m into football. For the entertainment aspect....

If my team loses it's not going to really effect my life that much. But if they play dormant, defensive, uninspiring football then I'm going to be less engaged. And less engagement means I'm not enjoying what I'm doing.

I'll just go and find something else to do, I've got plenty of other hobbies....and winning or losing at football isn't like life and death for me.

So I kinda get the Ange perspective on what football is about.

Not a single Forest fan was complaining about defending deep and hitting teams on the break last season - they were entertained by being at the top end of the table, winning more games than they lost... Winning is the most entertaining thing in football.

Well of course I totally agree there's lots of ways to win football matches. And I'm sure most fans would see the exactly the way the Forest fans do.

But for me I'm definitely in the 'football romantic' club....

As was the great Northern Ireland and Spurs player Danny Blanchflower who once said....

"The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It is nothing of the kind. The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style, and with a flourish, about going out and beating the lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom".

His manager at Tottenham, Bill Nicholson had an even more profound quote......

"It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low..."

But my favourite footballing quotation on this kind of matter came following the Champions League semi-final between Liverpool and Chelsea in 2005, when former Real Madrid coach, World Cup winner and all round football intellectual, Jorge Valdano attacked Rafael Benítez and Jose Mourinho, the corresponding managers....

"Football is made up of subjective feeling, of suggestion and, in that, Anfield is unbeatable. Put a shit hanging from a stick in the middle of this passionate, crazy stadium and there are people who will tell you it's a work of art. It's not, it's a shit hanging from a stick...."

Spurs have tried to live up to the legacy of Blanchflower and Nicholson for decades, and look at how much failing they've done whilst aiming high.

I've seen West Ham fans hound Sam Allardyce and David Moyes out of their clubs because whilst results were solid, performance wasn't "the West Ham way", Spurs get rid of Mourinho and Conte because "that's not Spurs football", and now Nott'm Forest chase Nuno out despite their best season in decades because his football is dull (the irony that he now ends up at West Ham, where he won't be playing "the West Ham way" is delightful) and replace him with Ange who will doggedly attempt to turn a group of very good defend-deep-attack-on-the-break players into his trade-marked cavalier entertainers... It's madness. A football club's job is to win games.

Thought this was an interesting shot comparing spurs(last year) avg position to forest, midfield alot more compact and Nico Williams used more as a traditional fullback rather than inverting like Porro did.

I think it might actually work better at Forest still might need another pacey CB and a tricky winger to score some goals.

It's difficult not to agree with you. Professional football is about winning. Of course, points mean prizes....all day long!

But football an undeniable charm that captivates the hearts of millions of people around the world. As an avid football enthusiast, I have often pondered the reasons why we enjoy spending our time watching and savouring football matches. It's not just about the goals or the victories; it's a deep-seated passion that binds us to the sport....

For me personally it's the 10% of the game, the beauty, the creativity and the individual moments of a player which I value the most and the ones that show that on the pitch are the greatest to ever play, but even if we’re robotic and analytical the other 90% of the time, it's the beauty and the creativity that keeps me avidly enthused. I would imagine I'm in the minority now?

Slightly off topic from Big Ange but in the decade, maybe decade and a half when I was following Middlesbrough home and quite often away we didn't really have an awful lot to get us excited. Sure there was promotions and relegations and the occasional cup run but nothing that really made you feel like you were top of the footballing world.

Then in 1995 out of the blue we signed Juninho or Juninho Paulista as he later became know as....

Then aged 22 and South America's player of the year, Juninho had been tracked by numerous European top clubs, and it was a major surprise when he signed for us. He was swiftly followed by the £7m Italy and Juventus striker Fabrizio Ravanelli and another very good Brazilian called Emerson.

Middlesbrough? It was probably a bit of a culture shock for all of them to say the least!

But it was Juninho who lit up Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium. We'd never seen a player like him. He was unbelievable, to us a frightening talent with a myriad of skills and the football world at his feet. Never seen a player like him at Middlesbrough and never seen one like him since. Totally transformed the team, we went from a meat and two veg footballing side to an exotic Brazilian moqueca overnight. It was a complete eye opening episode. Personally it really educated me in the intricacies of 'the beautiful game' It made me view the aesthetic of football and the abilities of footballers from an entirely different prism.

It was a roller-coaster ride too, we got to two cup finals and got relegated too. But the excitement levels had never in my time as a regular been higher....

Bryan Robson was manager at the time. He totally embraced his players abilities to his eventual downfall. Some years later we had the super pragmatic Tony Pulis as the gaffer....

Give me the Robson years anytime....
 
Tottenham were very lucky to get a point. Bodo/Glimt played some great football and created so many chances. xG - Bodo/Glimt (2.91) 2-2 (1.55) Tottenham.

I wonder how Bodo/Glimt recruit and/or develop players. They were all pretty technical & with a high football IQ and I wouldn't expect that from a club side from Norway.

I know I must seem like the sun shines out of Ange's backside...and it very well might be true haha BUT I do think tomorrow morning could see a bunch of goals pour in from the off!! If Forest can click in that final third then it could be a very tough night for the Danes.

Had a few extra days break to take a breath after the run of away games in quick succession. I just have a feeling the floodgates might burst open in this one.

Predict Forest to score within the first 10!
 
A win tomorrow is non negotiable but he really needs to beat newcastle as well, big few days coming up.
 
ondayw - I hope so for Ange and Forests sake its a first win @ home for otherwise that pressure is going to keep at the high zone.

I feel Ange's heart is alot similar to what Football us life is about - entertainment, let his team play open football which is pretty damn hard at the top levels to do how structured many many top Clubs play today unless you have a smart operater like Klopp approached playing total football/mentality monsters - his tenure for me was like of old, go for it don't hold back fellas, look at the skill you watched at his disposal, Bobbys no look pass's, the amazing unexpected spontanious perfect flicks, the Mane timing and aggro and desire putting away crackers unexpectedly then you have MO - need I say more.
I was reliving LFC go about football like days of old.
So its there but you need to complete sqaud that Ange/Forest don't have with all due respect like for like but they can play no doubt about that they just need that turn of luck and start getting a roll on/momentum.

IF you want grand old organic football top flight isn't that anymore barring the Club exceptions therefore you got to start following lower leagues more for thats not as "perfect" or robotic as some say.

By the way Football is life - your Juninho recollection what one player can inject in a team still is there imo, this young Ekitike we bought lights things up to me - his body use - turns - skill - is pretty damn good viewing plus has already scored a few and a red card haha not a bad start hehe

Yep. Ekitike looks like an absolutely fabulous footballer in the making. Maybe just a couple of little indiscretions in his game to iron out but you're always going to get that with young players, especially coming into a biggish cultural change in terms of the football.

I think it's going to be Isak competing with him for the central striker starting spot, rather than the other way around.
