I'm an interested observer of the poltical scene, particularly in Australia, the UK and France but I've tried to mostly avoid too much political discourse from the United States in recent times mainly because of the culture war aspect of it all.....

But I've noticed that the US's ideological political finger-wagging from both sides of the divide is starting to head in both Europe’s and Australia's direction.

And there has been an exponential rise in the past couple of years of news stories in the media that use the term “culture wars”. Exactly what constitutes a culture war is just one of the many issues that people fight about in the so-called culture war...

In Britain in the last week there's been huge flag waving demonstrations against mass immigration combined with counter demonstrations against them, very similar situation to those in Australia a few weeks ago. And on top of that a state visit from Donald Trump which also saw huge demonstrations with the now obligatory counter-demonstration!

The number of times I've heard the term culture war in tv and radio reports from Britain in the last week I've lost count. I mentioned the UK because politically it's very similar to Australia

Of course people will point out that here have always been cultural conflicts in Western politics but it’s become much sharper in recent times. I wonder where it's all headed??

So Estonia are requesting NATO's defence consultation Article 4 after this extremely provocative act by Russia. And on the surface it looks like Russia are trying to provoke NATO into triggering the more core collective defence clause Article 5 as it's the second time Article 4 has been invoked in 2 weeks.

But when you consider that the intensity of the war against Ukraine, it looks ss though Russia has neither enough troops nor the necessary weaponry for a full-scale (non nuclear) military attack against NATO's Baltic States and/or Poland....

Also I've read that the US has several thousand troops stationed in the region so you'd think it's extremely unlikely that Moscow would risk any operation, overt or covert, that could lead to an open, armed confrontation with US forces.

And generally I think that Western restraint in the face of continuous Russian provocation over the last few years in Ukraine would have been admirable, if it had succeeded in restraining Russian actions.

But it hasn't succeeded. It's clearly failed to do anything except to encourage Russia to push a little harder, and then a little bit more and then just a nudge further, again and again again.....

The West has been appeasing Putin, who tests and observes the military, political and public responses of the Nato partners, so he can establish fault lines for further exploitation.

He knows exactly how far he can stretch NATO's patience and it seems pretty far.

Let's see what happens next?

Completely support the Baltic states in any action against Russia after this.

But unfortunately Britain, Germany and US can have little moral or ethical upper hand due to their support of a genocide.

As football life says, they are poking and poking to see how far they can go. Just give Ukraine the weapons they need.

I heard an interesting interview on BBC breakfast radio the other day with a Polish cabinet minister.

From his point of view, the best response to Russia/Putin would be the provision of full technical and financial support for Ukraine from all NATO countries, instead of the current half hearted efforts, coupled with real sanctions, to include sanctions on those countries supporting Putin.

Of course, this would have to include a complete cessation of Russian oil imports.....
