Some 6 point matches early for coefficient fc

A bit nervous since we need to keep our spots and our clubs wont be match fit, especially city who had an early cup exit

Melb City need to increase the depth of their squad if they want a good run in the ACL.
8 ACL games in between A League games means squad rotation is going to be important.
But with so many players having left the club and only two significant signings, things are looking thin.
Yes the first 11 still looks strong but lose a few players to injury, like last year and the quality rapidly falls away.

Kaz Patafta was on a podcast the other day talking about the prospect of 🇦🇺 clubs participating in the ASEAN Club Championship(aka. the Shopee Cup, to use its sponsorship-name) someday; seems like an opportunity for the A-League GF winner seeing as there’s currently no continental-qualifying spot for it💡

would be brilliant to be more involved with ASEAN

how much of the resistance is lack of interest from us and how much is their lack of desire to involve us in competitions
It’s fair to deduce most of it is due to the former(the mere fact the Socceroos competed as guests in the East Asian FF tourney 12 years ago would’ve been seen as a snub to ASEAN by some, definitely)

how much are we missing out on? I imagine the tournaments would be at least every 2 years at all levels and the club tournament annual?

I’ve no idea, but not engaging w/our own region isn’t a good look as is; that’s w/o mentioning the financial incentives we’re certainly missing out on. Chalk it up to the FFA&APL’s bloodyminded incompetence, as per usual😔

Get used to it. That is what the APL's hard salary cap means.

People who are negative about the ACL should recall the huge interest in that first season or two our clubs participated. Then when it became apparent that our clubs weren't nearly as good as we thought, interest plummeted. Unrealistic to expect supporters to engage after year upon year of disappointment.

I remember being at Suncorp when the all conquering Roar were outclassed by FC Tokyo. I would have saved a lot of time and money if I had stayed home and had someone throw a cold bucket of water over me instead.

Which is how it will be while we have a salary cap. I get the argument for the cap, I really do, but in the broader scope it has crippled the game in this country.
