Was going to do a thread specific for this magazine - but thought a general thread on any possible historical publications across the country if the exist might be better.

Received a copy of the first issue of Extra-Time today from Russ Gibbs (who is in charge of media for Capital Football, but has produced this publication independently). I’m not going to spoil the full contents of articles, because Russ still has some available to purchase (Russ.gibbs@mail.com - or send him a message on LinkedIn)

  • Reliving Canberra Olympic’s 2016 FFA Cup run
  • Programme: Inter Monaro v Canberra City 1986

Do they have to be still-active or can we submit defunct mags too? I’ve a whole bunch of Soccer International and 🇦🇺FourFourTwo back-issues still(plus single issues of even-older publications)…

I mean.. either/or I suppose? I was essentially trying to poke around and see if there are any current publications that focus on historical stuff in Australia (probably not - but I know there's English magazines that do so) - so any old stuff that anyone has from the past (such as the back issues that you mentioned) would probably fit the bill

I've still got the Manchester United 99 tour program at my parent's home. Dad also found a ticket from the Sydney match in a tin in my nan's garage. Decent condition too.

Amazing that program had the greatest Socceroos team ever for the time. I think Kewell and Viduka were already included but Mitchell and Arnold weren't but got a mention. Even then it wasn't slim pickings given 74 and the 90s. Wish I had it with me to upload some pages.

Used to get the Glory Glory Manchester United fan magazine at the shop as a kid. What a time you'd walk along the aisle and there'd be world soccer or some other title in don't recall. There was always a Liverpool magazine and the occasional Leeds or Newcastle one. Quite the effort back then for a small newsagency in Erina to have such things but they may have been passed around from store to store. I remember the place went back so far. Most of those big stores have either been redrawn or are much more shallow with more storage or admin added.

I remember looking in one magazine with regular FIFA rankings wondering how the Czech Republic was so high as they weren't on any video game at the time nor had it heard of the place.

I got quite a few in the late 99 season run so had the 99 UCL and title celebration copy. I must have thrown them away. Stupid as they'd be in mint condition now in a folder somewhere.

Newsagent in Erina - that brings back some memories..

Im the same... Had a huge collection of Shoot and Goal and even Roy of the Rovers but all got turfed years ago when dad got sick of all those boxes in his garage... :( Wish Id kept some...

that saying mud sticks rings very very true.
We even have posters behaving as such to this day, amazes me, yep the more it stays the same.
What I find sadly when you search through other sites, comments from brain washed under20 to 30yr olds some would have never known what went on really but what they have read and stand by the side of their common mates.
Ignorance is bliss.
All this BS political correctness, we are all the same no matter colour race yaddayadda hypocrites to the max.

I hope they do an historical article on the Canberra Public Service League. I played in it from 1987-88.
Was a serious league- results were in the paper at one stage. An ex-Socceroo was in my team.

Still exists by the way

I know we have a couple NPL first graders in my department, so if they ever wanted an extra hit-out...

You were on the coast? I just remembered the little one wedged in a bunch of shops where Woolworths is. It's now an open Cafe floor. Totally forgot that one. Fountain Plaza had a decent enough one.
