"Brisbane Roar continued their pre-season fixtures with a 2-0 win over the Central Coast Mariners in front of 6,815 supporters at Sunshine Coast Stadium.

It was a physical battle between the two sides that saw most of the first half remain scoreless before Nathan Amanatidis crossed it into the box and found Justin Vidić in front of goal to make it 1-0 before the break.

James McGarry was next to find the back of the net, scoring against his former club by launching a shot past the keeper in the 83rd minute to secure the 2-0 victory.

After a great day out on the Sunshine Coast, the club would like to extend its thanks to the Sunshine Coast Council for making the day possible and to the fans that came out to support the club.

Up next, Roar head up to Redcliffe to face Peninsula Power in a pre-season clash on Tuesday 26 August at AJ Kelly Park"

"Brisbane Roar can today confirm that NPL Head Coach Karl Dodd will depart the club at the end of August, effective 31 August 2025, to focus on impending work and study commitments.

Dodd joined Brisbane Roar in November 2024 and has had a significant impact on the club’s NPL program. Over the past year, Dodd has been instrumental in rebuilding the program and accelerating the development of the next generation of Roar talent.

Guiding a group with an average age of 18.5 years, Dodd’s commitment to youth development has been reflected in two key outcomes:

The club’s first-ever semi-final appearance in the KAPPA Pro Series, and;
A strong cohort of youth players featuring prominently in Michael Valkanis’ A-League Men pre-season to date.

These achievements underscore the clear pathway to professional football that exists for aspiring players in Queensland, the key focus of Brisbane Roar’s NPL program.

Brisbane Roar Chief Operations Officer, Zac Anderson said, “we wish to thank Karl for his commitment and professionalism during his time at Brisbane Roar.

“As a club, we are proud to have a former player return and share their knowledge with the next generation of talent. We wish Karl all the very best for his next endeavours; Karl will always be part of the Roar family.”

Departing Head Coach, Karl Dodd said, "I would like to thank the Brisbane Roar for giving me the opportunity to lead the NPL side in 2025. I would also like to thank the club, and the NPL staff and players who have been excellent in bringing the youth program forward this season.

"Brisbane Roar are delighted to announce that CommBank Matildas legend, Tameka Yallop has signed a one-year deal ahead of the 25/26 Ninja A-League season.

The midfielder had an incredible 24/25 season that saw her overtake Clare Polkinghorne for the most caps in club history after playing her 153rd Roar match in Round 3. In a standout season, Yallop also became the second all-time goal-scorer in league history, the first player to score five hat tricks, whilst also becoming Brisbane Roar’s all-time women’s goal-scorer.

Yallop capped off her season receiving the Kate McShea Medal, Player’s Player award and Golden Boot award.

The Matildas icon initially returned to the Roar ahead of the 23/24 season after previously spending ten years at the club, from 2008-2018. It was here that she was part of both Championship-winning campaigns along with claiming three Premierships.

Yallop has a wealth of experience under her belt, coming from international stints at the Boston Breakers (USA), FFC Frankfurt (Germany), Iga F.C. Kunoichi (Japan), Mallbackens (Sweden), and Klepp IL (Norway).

Yallop moved to Melbourne City for the 2018-2019 season before returning to Brisbane in 2019. She later departed in 2021, to take up an opportunity at English powerhouse West Ham United before joining Brann (Norway) in 2022.

Across her more than 130 caps for the Matildas, Yallop has also claimed the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in 2010, AFF Womens’ Championship in 2008, Tournament of Nations in 2017 and the FFA Cup of Nations in 2019.

Speaking on committing to her hometown club for another season, Yallop said: “I’m so excited to be back at the club where it all started for me.

“I can’t wait to see our fans fill up the stands again this season, they mean the world to the team and I’m counting on them to back us for an exciting campaign.

“I think we have a great mix of youth and experience in the squad this year, so I’m feeling extremely positive about the season ahead. We will no doubt be aiming to add another championship to the cabinet.

Head Coach Alex Smith said: “We are very happy to have Meeks back onboard this year.

“Her record in this league speaks for itself and after taking the armband last year she took her game to an even higher level.

“To have someone with her experience and quality leading the side is a huge luxury for me as a coach. I can’t wait to work with her again this season.” "

"Brisbane Roar can today announce the return of exciting attacker Kijah Stephenson for the upcoming 25/26 Ninja A-League season.

A Bundaberg native, Stephenson joined the club in 2022 after bursting on the scene with Sunshine Coast fire before impressing at NPL level through the Football Queensland QAS program.

The 23-year-old made 27 appearances and scored four goals for the club across two seasons before sustaining an ACL injury in her NPL QLD season with Olympic FC and was unable to play in the 24/25 season due to her rehabilitation.

Stephenson has now overcome her rehabilitation, and the speedy forward is back for an exciting season.

“It’s been a long, challenging year recovering from injury, but I’m excited to be back,” Stephenson said.

“I’ve had an enormous amount of support from the club throughout this journey, and I’m honoured to be given the opportunity to continue to be a part of it.

“We’re looking to build on last year’s performance. While finals are always the goal, it’s just as important for us to be a club our fans can be proud to support.”

Speaking on Stephenson’s return, Head Coach Alex Smith said: “Really pleased to welcome Kijah back.

“The timing of her injury last year was devastating for her, but I have seen the hard work she has put into her rehab.

“Kijah is one of the most talented players I have worked with, and I can’t wait for her to showcase that again this year.” "

"Brisbane Roar is pleased to welcome youth international midfielder Kiera Meyers to the club ahead of the 25/26 Ninja A-League season.

Meyers arrives in Brisbane after two seasons at premiership-winning side Melbourne City, where she was an injury replacement in the 22/23 season before earning a two-year scholarship deal.

Born in Minnesota, Meyers moved to Melbourne with her family in 2021, where she played for Southern United FC before joining the Emerging Matildas program for 18 months. This led to her becoming a train-on for Melbourne City before signing her first A-League contract.

The 18-year-old played for the Junior Matildas at the 2023 Asian Cup Qualifiers and has also been involved in Young Matildas training camps.

Speaking on signing for the club, Meyers said: “I am so excited to be joining Brisbane Roar.

“I chose Brisbane for the quality and style of football played under a great coaching staff who believe in developing young players.

“I am excited to learn from my teammates and coaches, to gain experience and to continue growing as a footballer. I believe this team can win titles and I want to contribute to achieving that goal.”

After previously working with Meyers during his time as Assistant Coach at City, Head Coach Alex Smith said: “Kiera is a talented player I have known for many years.

“I am looking forward to her showcasing that talent with the Roar, in front our amazing fans. She is an exciting attacking player with an ability to change a game.

“I have seen her progress and mature through the national teams and can’t wait to work with her again.” "
 
We are really moving on the Women's Roar team now too.

Maybe we are aiming as high as the double - but finals football has to be the minimum goal for both anyway.

"Brisbane Roar are delighted to welcome rising star Tahlia Franco on board to bolster the club’s goalkeeping stocks ahead of the 25/26 Ninja A-League season.

Born and bred in Western Sydney, Franco’s football journey began in the Canterbury Football Association before joining Sydney FC and signing her first A-League contract ahead of the 22/23 season.

The 19-year-old joins the club from the Sky Blues, where she made her A-League debut in January 2023 before helping Sydney FC secure the double, winning both the premiership and championship in 22/23 as well as the 23/24 championship.

Franco was first called up to the Junior Matildas in 2022, where she was pivotal in winning the AFF U18 Women’s Championship. She was then named in the Young Matildas squad to represent Australia at the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers.

Speaking on transferring to Brisbane, Franco said: “I’m excited to sign for the club this season.

“It feels like the right place to grow, compete, and contribute to success. I’m ready to give my best, develop my game, and help the team achieve something special. Can’t wait to get started.”

“Tahlia brings A-League and national team experience to our goalkeeping department,” Head Coach, Alex Smith said.

“She has the desire to compete at the highest level possible and will no doubt help us this season. She has all the tools and ability to become a top goalkeeper.

"Brisbane Roar are delighted to welcome American striker Ashlyn Miller from the University of Texas for the upcoming Ninja A-League Women 25/26 season.

Miller’s football journey began at the Solar Soccer Club in Dallas where she had the opportunity to represent the United States at youth international level in the Gothia Cup in Sweden, friendlies in Canada in 2015 and winning the Dana Cup in Denmark in 2017.

Th 22-year-old has spent the past four years at the University of Texas, where she scored 10 goals and bagged 18 assists. Miller played a part in securing the program’s Southeastern Conference (SEC) tournament title in 2024. During her college career, she earned recognition on the SEC Preseason Watchlist (2024) and the Academic All-Big 12 First Team (2022).

Before signing with Brisbane, Miller signed a short-term contract with San Diego Wave where she played in two friendly matches. Miller also competed in The Soccer Tournament (TST) in June with Reunion City Dallas, where they reached the semi-finals.

“I’m excited to sign with the Brisbane Roar,” Miller said.

“I am ready to make an impact on the field and to continue my development as a professional.

“The A-League is a competitive environment, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to contribute to this club this season.”

Speaking on the addition of Miller to the squad, Head Coach, Alex Smith said: “Ashlyn is a very exciting player who has the ability to take players on, score great goals, and also make her teammates better.

“She had a great college career and has now had a taste of professional football in the NWSL.

“I am really looking forward to working with her and watching her to showcase what she can do." "
