G&G FC Pod: #20 - Inside the Delays Holding Back the NST (feat. Nick Galatas, Michael Lynch, SMFC Mike & Pete)

No arguments from me, they are franchises. But that's not what he says, it's the degrading terms that are divisive, and that's the point he's trying to make. "Franchises" is a fact, "McFranchise", "FAKE ⚽" and others are degrading. In a similar way, "NPL on planes" is a fact, it's literally the best of NPL on planes... but when someone like Rugari and others says, you know it's with a negative connotation. There's context.

People can write whatever they want to online, I don't care how they want to portray themselves. But I can't stand hypocrisy around me. Don't point out name-calling when you're a name caller haha. It's like preaching for peace whilst carpet bombing civilians, who does that? It's just putting your own opinion straight in the bin. I'm only bringing it up because he's part of the pod here and I'd like the wider audience to respect his opinions. Think of it as PR advice ☮️ I've said before that I don't disagree with most things he says, but it's how he says it. The point he's trying to make here is a great one!
I understand, In our episode with the 2 alex's I give my thoughts at the start and as you said he is a mate so hope he doesn't mind me saying the following:

I agree his phrasing is a bit jarring when tweeting. When you join the football community you kind of feel like so much of mainstream australia is trying to kick the code down, so to hear other football fans call our struggling league fake mcfranshises with hashtags #deathtothealeagues that can be confronting. (By contrast I wouldn't give a stuff if people said death to the broncos or the nrl or fake mcnrl franchises because it doesn't feel like its struggling for air)

Obviously what happened to migrant communities wasn't of the same level as what happened to Black Americans in the USA, but I drew a similar lessons as there was a racial element when migrant clubs got excluded so nerves are raw. When people have something unfair happen to them, they don't all act like martin luther king with flowery prose given in unoffensive language. A lot of allies to their cause eventually realised that if you wait for people who have been wronged to put things in a Martin Luther King style way, then you never learn their perspective. Also there just seemed something jerkish about policing people's tone after they have been wronged. Besides, in the end we can only control our own behaviour, so turn the other cheek applies to me alone

Having said that, one thing I think is disastrous is when well meaning allies hear what happened to African Americans or Australian Aboriginals and start saying they hate the country - in the end it makes it much harder for the news to spread and allies have no reason to act like that. So just like we should all be proud of Australia while advocating for change - in my opinion - we should be proud of our clubs while advocating for change and giving a different perspective next time someone says "bitter"

IMO the hope was also that when the 'comet attendees' widdled down to the pure football 'supporters' of the aleague clubs, the negativity that existed under the banner sold to most, as the necessary 'mainstreaming' of the game would hopefully sort itself out.. the reality is that although it has gone a small way towards correcting itself, it seems that the elements in charge of the sport in some key areas and a contingency of fans of aleague clubs still utilize the same divisive arguments which are then countered by opposition the same way.

Hypocrisy begets hypocricy otherwise you tend to be stuck in a loop trying to prove your not an elephant!

Ill use myself as an example here, i agree with @grazorblade on most things he says, and even if he made the opposite point to my belief system i would take it on with actuall thought trying to understand it and/or engage in proper debate, furthering this i agree with @HappyGuus regarding what he says here especially about the hypcorcy and most things overall etc, and they are the exact type of aleague fans I would never have had an issue with and respect, as perhaps are most ... problem is the ones that have stuck to the old banners, that despite proof to the contrary continue to use that same flawed wrong logic to date and for no good reason, against the NSL we understand and agree against the clubs though? Thus, when you sit on the other side of a fence of exclusion, and continue to be told that you dont belong, then your voice gets drowned out in at best a very limited and highly controlled environemnt so you tend to react accordingly, this is smfcmike and most of us, ideally id like it all to be rosey but it wont be bc the voice of the aleague supporter is not the voice of the admistrstor or the APL and as long as it isnt then interests wont align and this wont change thats what he argues!

I dont have to agree or respect the APL or the aleague franchises/owners if they stand in my way (as they do) i do have to respect your right to support them as you have to do with mine to want to reach the pinnacle... if need be via any means necessary, especially if ultimatley its for the good of the game!

Thats my 2 cents, not new i know but adds to perspective!

No worries Guus... I get your point and acknowledge I have been more than guilty of the very same "crime" myself... It is indeed a noble pursuit to desire all of the football "tribes" in this country learn to get along but in saying that it isnt hard to revert back to a defensive position when the attempts at bridge building aren't exactly met with any real respect from the other side... Context is everything I agree, but wiping out 100 years of animosity towards who we (and I hate to speak on Mike's behalf but Ill take the liberty of expressing what I think may be his position) fundamentally are as the sons of football crazy migrants isnt exactly easy.

The fish rots from the top my friend, the FA may have been making slow but sure overtures toward reconciliation with "old soccer" but the APL has vested interest in forever keeping us apart... if for nothing else than for fear of losing market share... Change the message coming out of the front office and I think you'll find less agro between old and new....

Funnily enough, I don't agree or respect them either haha! At least until they turn their shit around. And I'd say most A-League fans are in the same boat. How does this game get stuck with garbage at the top? I am positive that a group from this forum could run the whole thing better.

The fish rots from the top

One of my favourite lines, and scary how often I need to use it haha 🫤🐟

What about Pete? He seems to have his finger on the pulse. I feel like he should've had a job in the game at some stage. Going out of his way about the whole Western United bid was impressive.
Jokes aside Pete would be the most 'diplomatic option' and he is truly a wealth of knowledge.... We assign him to governence model. SMFC ppl everywhere! Im going for the trump model of chaotically imposed change🤣

Yeah well said

Unfortunately, if a league reddit is anything to go by, there certainly are some xenophobic supporters. And even if that wasnt the case, policies havent changed at the top yet

So in the end there is plenty to rant about and I wouldnt want anyone to feel they cant be themselves around me if they want to vent, as much as I love my own club
