Soccer Ashes thread

Things like this really bug me. SBS just released an Aussies abroad segment saying Segecic makes a strong case for a call up. This is hours after being named in the Olyroos squad. It's just the oblivion that football media types have no overview of what's going on. It's lazy and we need people in such roles who are as feisty and knowledgeable as an MLB secretary.

From what i hear is its gonna be a A-league based Socceroo squad, If that is the case there is no way there winning the ashes.

Yet I recall Popovic saying it'll be hard for the to make the squad given they're not in season. It''ll be refreshing for NZ to turn up for a change. Only been 20 years since they've actually been cohesive against Australia hence the boredom of the matches.

NZ have a better midfield and strikers back lack good defenders, def have the better goal keeper too. Wont be shocked if they put 4 pass the Socceroos.

As much as people knock the All Whites i think they will make for a good game, Both team are heading to the world cup and NZ have something to prove. Look id rather see the Socceroo's play Brazil but as it stands there is some history behind the matches and i believe NZ want it more, take the ashes back and hand Poppa his first 2 losses as Aus coach.

The last time NZ even come close to being away on the pitch was the pre 2010 WC friendly. Otherwise it's always been a snoozefest where you wonder why NZ even bothered to turn up.

For me it's not even about showing NZ up. They'll make a good go of it at the WC but these repeated friendlies are not as big as a rivalry as made out.

I'm sure I've missed someone but this lot have been playing and well to boot. A League outfielders shouldn't be considered but this stupidly means they'll get in for the more attractive North American window where Borrello, Behich, Caceres and Taggart should have nothing to do with.

Any reason why you went with Geria over Deng?

Geria hasn't played since June while Deng has been involved pretty consistently if you want leagues that didn't have a break, otherwise I'd like to see Iredale tested.

I wasn't aware of that. Injured? Another chance to try someone else for a window.

Deng is done for me. He had chances under Arnold and Popovic and got caught out both times.
 
Any word on when Popa will announce the squad? Usually we get some sort of teaser on when the official announcement will be, but there's been nothing. Surely has to be this week.

Just hoping Popa's having a good long think about a certain inclusion that caused a stir with the U23's squad announcement 🤞
