Do we really need a CB? Marco/Jankovic/Spink should be fine you'd thinkYeah I heard the same.... A CB and a DM for sure and #9 maybe....
I dont know if I agree with that... JA is savy and has player conenctions, sure, but I think he is to set in his ways to make a real impact... would have to completely revamp his squad and I dont think he would keep Bonada and Mikkola for example.... Siki's replacement has to be a WOW coach for me....The only way we will meet the standard thats expected of our club is if we poach Anastasiadis after the championship. The biggest club should have the best coach. No disrespect to Siki but JA football is what lakeside needs. Money talks and i expect a big offer to him. Siki gets the championship but i hope the club doesnt pull the trigger too quickly for 2026.
exactly this..... OK Avondale barely slipped out of second gear but there was NO hunger from the debutantes....What a joke of a performance! No hunger (or ability to perform) from the fringe players that shouldve wanted to prove a point given this opportunity... Brennan shouldnt get on the park again for South ...
And NOT worry about what every other shitty little pissant club around us is doing..... We love to talk about glory but don't know how to project it....We need to go back to the old Hellas ways - best coach with the best players.
Great summary mate, mostly agree. Some of them weren't too bad
- Spink: Thought he was fantastic. Was a big reason we kept it to 5 and not 9 or 10, love his desperation to defend. Would keep.
- Inglese: What the hell has happened to him this year? Miles off where he was last year, hardly saw him hit a pass
- Brennan: Was actually decent on the ball early and worked hard defensively at times. Unfortunately was gassed after about 30 mins and was kept out there way too long, looked like he was running on a treadmill in the second half. Was directing the young players well.
- Halfpenny: Long way off his best form. Would not be renewing his contract.
- Nagamatsu: Been a very disappointing last month from him. Gone is the sharp touch he showed in his first few games
- Menelaou: Liked him. Very strong and physical over the ball and never gave up, hope we keep hold of him
- O Sullivan: Garbage. No idea why he's had so many chances this year, he's state league standard at best. How the hell did he make it to National League in the UK?
- Mesourouni: Garbage. Worst player on the field. Some of his turnovers were comical.
- Evans: How the hell has he clung to a career at South for so long? Can't believe it's taken till this year for him to fall out of favour. Surely that's the last game he plays!
- Dovison: Worked hard. Probably our best RW at this point in time, appreciated his determination to run both ways
- Charleston: Hung out to dry by Inglese and Evans. Prefer him to Pithoulas, but would be upgrading over the offseason if possible
Papadimitriou: Was tidy on the ball.
Killick: Liked his energy.
Head: Didn't really notice him
Durso: Probably his best effort for the year tbh. Beat a few defenders with his dribbling. There's a player there somewhere, just needs confidence and time (don't think he'll get either of those things at South)
Gorr-Burchmore: Didn't really notice him
Outside of Spink and Menelaou, not a massive fan of our depth unfortunately
I was/am sceptical about the value of this but....... we do need a warm body at #9 and I think it would really work for Bonada to have a little Latin striking partner.. could be fun if it happens.Spink, Dovison and Menealou are the only ones im keeping.
Unfortunately Nagamatsu has come up against the likes of Avondale and Heidelberg in recent times and been a non event, whilst we've seen Bonada torment those 2 teams.
100% going for Fornaroli now if possible.
welcome aboard, and you are 100% right with the "hung out to dry" comment... Inglese just had a few blunders but otherwise did try and hold the striker off... Morgan had a shocker though Ive gotta disagree with you there...I would disagree, I think halfpenny and Inglese held their own. Evans had glimpses too. These young boys were hung out to dry with the squad selection and 'impact subs' coming off the bench, many of which were given debuts. Also remembering that the boys arguably should've gone into the break at 0-0. Yes it wasn't a pretty performance, but still a lot of positives to take away from this. Mind you they played against a full strength Avondale team who just beat Apia 3-1 mid week (who are 3rd in NPLNSW with a game in hand to move into 2nd) .
THATS the problem though. we are "breaking the glass in case of emergency" and on the bench is Messorouni..... oh boy....100% agree on the dead wood
Incredible that Evans has played 16 games this year
Halfpenny 12
Durso 14
O Sullivan 6
Mesouroni 9
Inglese 19
These guys should be break glass emergencies at best for a club like South
Its Durso OR Skapoulas for me.... Durso is faster but Skapoulas seems to have a better eye for whipping a ball in.... we have a glut of "almost there" players... sadly we need to cull.I would also be keeping Durso... he showed a little bit last night and isn't the worst option to bring on against tired defenders - similar to Skapoulas
Kid went to the states to get an education and to plough cheerleaders... who can blame him?Francou leave or injured?
well said... up until now I wasnt going to turn up ... youve guilted me into itYeah was happy to see him get the captaincy for his last ever home game and thought he actually put in a couple of good balls early on (at least compared to his recent form) but I would assume this weekend is the end... been a great servant of the club, would be nice if we could get a few there to thank him for his efforts
Once Menelaou has some more fitness I'd be keen to see him starting more often
Was amazed at just how far off O'Sullivan was off the standard - how the hell did that bloke make the National League in England? I don't think I saw him complete a dribble
Spink can play accross the backline but we DO need a CB to cover for Marko/Jake...Do we really need a CB? Marco/Jankovic/Spink should be fine you'd think
Agree on the DM/number nine though
Fair point on O Sullivan - I did note his work rate up and down but his dribbling was very poor... hopefully a once offGreat summary mate, mostly agree.
- Nagamatsu has NOT had the service of Mikkola and Bonada that he was signed up for... especially eysterday. still have hope he is the player we saw on debut.
- Menelaou is good but maybe lazy ... passing can be attrocious at times.
- O Sullivan is a work horse, good for screening or box to box and can ping in a cross... still too early to judge.
Skapoulas clearly has more talent with the ball but can't stop getting injured... three seperate injuries in one year isn't ideal. That said, his game against Hajduk in the Cup was better than anything Durso produced in double the matchesIts Durso OR Skapoulas for me.... Durso is faster but Skapoulas seems to have a better eye for whipping a ball in.... we have a glut of "almost there" players... sadly we need to cull.
Was wondering why this was - four boys that've grown up playing juniors for the club come on and act like they've got somewhere else to be (outside of the blond kid...Killick I'm guessing, he showed a bit of fight)exactly this..... OK Avondale barely slipped out of second gear but there was NO hunger from the debutantes....
For the championship we need cover as much as for competition IMO... consistency is good but complecency is not!Do we really need a CB? Marco/Jankovic/Spink should be fine you'd think
Agree on the DM/number nine though
Sad look for all involved.... As others have said, OK, I can understand resting players after the past 2 weeks for meaningles game but if the TRUE intent was to blood some youngsters, put them one with a seasoned spine.... ONE of Marshal/Jankovic, Mikkola/Bonada etc.... we just threw a pack of players to the wolves for the sake of saying we gave debuts to them... Don't think the players themselves wouldn't feel the disjointedness from the crowd... For all intents and purposes we threw the match, its disrespectful to the fans the club AND the players thrown to the wolves....Fair point on O Sullivan - I did note his work rate up and down but his dribbling was very poor... hopefully a once off
Menelaou is still a little off peak fitness I believe

Particularly when Andy's directions stopped after he came off we looked very lost out there
Patience with Menelaou yes (too early to tell if its a fitness or a talent issue but will give him benefit for now). Another #9 definitely....I do think a more established defender is needed for an upgrade at the back preferably more speed, an actual ball playing midfielder is as crucial as the forward!I'd be looking at another #9, a winger and a CM. I'd back Menalaou in as a DM. Personally dont think we need defenders, Inglese wont be cut so Spink and him are enough.
O'Sullivan was great his first few appearances, turned the cup tie against paco, worth persisting with as backup. Ultimately we dont have enough to push our best 11.
This ^^^^ and that's all that needs to be said! They lost me at the Hobart game when they couldn't even take a photo with the 50 odd fans, (not staff or connections to players) that forked out for a midweek interstate match! But guess what they found another balcony there too! Pretty pathetic after such a good turnout IMO and during such a shit year! This whole year has been disrespectful and a waste of our money ... They beg and plead for us to "stay loyal" and stick with the club and then go and treat the whole thing like some sort of marketing promotional personal vendetta against the scummy clubs.....
They clearly don't give a flying fuck about you or me or the other die hard idiots that turn up EVERY week, they wanna make a good impression infront of the pimps and whores outside Vanilla....... NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!!!!
When October rolls around and there are an extra 2-3 thousand people at games... every moron that turned up week in week out will be "replaced" by the event going wannabe "Hellas all my life but I have to put Lakeside in Google maps to find the joint" crowd... Just so shit....
