If I'm buying an Australian beer it's usually James Boag's Premium, James Squire's Broken Shackles or one of the Cooper's....

Admittedly I'm not particularly sophisticated in my beer tastes but I'm happy with that . If I'm in a bar or pub I'll be a bit more adventurous and often try something different.

James Squire and Cooper’s just fit into the bigger craft breweries. They don’t use preservatives. I’ve enjoyed a lot of JS beers.

Boag’s, Stella, Estrella, Peroni I struggle to drink.

Most people have your palate - where you like golden lagers.

The most out there tastes are sours, hazy pale ales, hoppy IPAs and Russian Imperial Stouts.

You’ve developed a good repertoire of craft tastes since I tried to induce you to drink craft beer!

Milk and whey stout - very rich and sweet, using lactos. Serious craft beer style!

Belgian Blondes - decent wheat bier. I like Blanche even more, which adds citrus.

I’m looking for Izayaka at my favourite Japanese restaurant - next.

Do you like malty beers using roasted malt - Brown Ales and Red Ales based on British style? Nutty, caramel, toffee, biscuit flavours.

Pale Ales - a bit hoppy, devoid of citrus, fruity flavour?

Stouts and Porters - molasses, chocolate, coffee flavours?

They grow a lot of Malbec around Toulouse and the Lot Valley in France.

Coal Valley is nearby. They grow the Syrah style of Shiraz. A ripper from Riversdale is 10 mins away.

We have plenty of members. We need more of them reviewing beers for the Tas CBA Facebook site when they aren’t drinking with me!

We also have 3 craft beer owners and about 8 head brewers. They can’t review their own beers. Someone has to do it!

Given you like English Brown Ales you could possibly like some Porters and Stouts. You should also like British Red Ales, that are usually malty and back off on hop bitterness.

Milk and Whey Stouts - have combinations of caramel, chocolate, sometimes coffee flavours, the latter often found in Brown Ales, plus they have lactos added to make them sweeter/maltier.

Nitro Stouts - wouldn't work for you, or Russian Imperial Stouts, or another one that Du Cane Brewer, Sam Phillips brewed - a Miso Stout. These tend to have lots of molasses and have a heavy feel and savoury taste - that I like.

Another you could like which is a sweeter style of Stout or Porter, is Peanut Butter Porter or Stout. These are very rich and sweet. I can usually only drink about half a Pot or 285 ml glass!

We have a number of new members to TCBA who have joined in the last few days, including 1 definite from G and G FC. I’ve just welcomed a whole lot of you!

I’ll have to see from the site owner if I can plug G and G FC?

Tas CBA is fast closing in on 100 members. Not sure how many we have from Green and G?

A few of us meet up today at North Hobart Jazz Festival.

The first will be a pub that serves a lot of craft beers. The second T Bone, with Boodle Beasley(owned by Last Rites) the third venue. All have jazz combos.

Always like T Bone Nitro Stout - ultra heavy, viscous, a denser and more flavoursome version of Guinness.

I reckon I get out a lot more than you, A.

I'm used to face to face interaction. Do a lot of socialising with the union movement, climate activists, Tas Craft Beer Assoc, plus private parties with friends not involved in these groups.

The inner sanctum of Tas Craft Beer Assoc attended the Hot August Jazz Festival yesterday in North Hobart. 4 big blokes who can really hold their liquor too! Aged from mid 30s to my age of 68.

We drank 17-18 beers yesterday. We each had a 200ml tasting glass. Each bloke would buy a 425 ml schooner or 570 ml pint, then share it amongst the 4 tasting glasses of 200 ml.

I'd have to say my 3 TCBA members were more discerning than me. I even liked the Yuzu Wietbier from T Bone, featuring banana and cloves at the front of the palate.

There were 3 pub/craft breweries with quality jazz groups playing.

We drank Communion XPA, Little Rivers Middy ( pale ale), Spotty Dog Pub Stout at the Crescent.

Then at T Bone Brewery we sampled Nitro Stout, Peanut Butter Porter, Single Hop Hazy, Breakfast Juice ( less hazy than a year ago), Yuzu Wietbier, and the Captain Bligh Red Anneke.

We ended up at Boodle Beasley where we drank the Last Rites ( they own BB) Pale Ale, one beer L bought I can't remember, Captain Bligh Whisky Barrel Aged Stout at 15% (velvet smooth, rocket fuel), plus two Aus mainland craft beers from Dangerous Ales - a Whisky Barrel Aged Stout and another complex hazy.

My favourite was the ultra heavy 8% T Bone Nitro Stout - a much heavier and better version of Guinness. The Irish Stout, Guinness, seems like a light beer in comparison. It takes about 5 - 10 minutes to pour a pint of molasses heavy T Bone Nitro Stout! None of the other 3 blokes rated it as their favourite though!

Excellent music and a lot of fun! 4 great mates too - united by a love of craft beer.

We warmed up the night before at some mates' blind wine tasting party - which was also a lot of fun!

Out of 14 wines, most picked the same 3 as their three favourites all from blind tasting. Nocton Pinot Noir, Springvale Sav Blanc and Ghost Rock Sav Blanc.

We also had to select 3 wines that weren't Tasmanian. I picked 2, as did my better half. Also, we had to guess which wine was which. I came last getting 0 out of 14!
