Perth Glory vs AC Milan

All good, but when I proposed an interstate competition (which we could run on the FIFA dates in a calendar year) I got howled down as infeasable. I reckon it would be a goer as there would be 3 or 4 States that would like their chances of success, which would make for a fairly meaningful competition.
There already IS one mate, just played out a few weeks ago in Melbourne :)

Youre not thinking the big picture.

We all know these friendlies suck but the point is it's Australian football attention the leagues need people to come in and everyone finds a new way to get on the sport
DUDE 99.9% of the crowds and viewers wanted to get their eurofix on.... sport had nothing to do with it..... I wonder how many sat in the stands wondering when the boring kicking stuff on the field would finish and the fireworks and selfie opportunities would start :)

The game didn't even rate on FTA TV, below 40k
Dunno what channel it was on in other states, but in Brisbane it was on 7Flix, which is still on SD broadcasting and a channel I had never even seen before. I didn't know it was being shown, I just happened to see it when I was checking the channel guide. If it was on the same channel in other states, it is completely unsurprising that it didn't rate.

Whoever is responsible, just a cash grab or whatever, that kind of result puts me off football in Australia. What an Embarrassment for the code, an absolute Disgrace that Perth Unglorious were.
I totally agree, what an absolute disgrace, sure AC Milan are a powerful European side, but 9-0?, did the Perth Glory players even try? (I didn't watch the game).

There seems to be no end to Perth's slowmotion trainwreck.

The League is in bad shape. Perth, Western United, Brisbane, Melb City, and the Bulls are an embarrassment to the competition, between abysmal performances, financial disaster, and non existent crowds. Victory's crowds have halved. Wanderers play home games in front of endless empty seats. The Jets likewise. Wellington - well, does anyone in Australia care, really? What Wellington does is pretty much irrelevant to the overall health of the A-League.

Doesn't leave much, does it? Sydney, Adelaide, and Auckland. Three clubs that are ok to doing well (actually only Auckland in the last category).

TBH, I'm actually surprised, positively, that the League hasn't folded under the weight of financial losses of the clubs. That fact, in the face of the current state of play, is grounds for optimism.

My thoughts on something like this happening, is the A-League has a myriad of problems and challenges it really needs to address in order to maintain and increase it's viability on and off the pitch.

However one of it's clubs losing 0-9 to AC Milan in a pre season friendly game probably isn't one of them....

effectively at this stage -

August 5
AC Milan v Inter Milan (Optus Stadium)

August 8
Inter Milan v Juventus (Optus Stadium)

August 11
Juventus v Palermo (Venue TBC)

Hope the west go support them - also importantly they themselves put on a decent game for the crowd, nothing worse than a touring snooze fest.
Fingers crossed for you.
Maybe just maybe I could arrange a biz trip week leading into it.

Should we make a thread for this if it happens?
