2025 Australia Cup final rounds thread

Ok on point, Not every season No, but surely a better track record in that department than yours thats for sure, even you would admit that!
So basically, nothing has changed in 48 years of national league football. I would see your point if PRO/ REL had been in from the start, but it hasn’t. Your team benefited beyond well in one season if I recall right, from a dodgy relegation.

Remember though

Ahh but we do have a history of pro/rel though dont we despite its flaws!
Regarding your subtle hint at the one time south underperformed.. Not that it was right, but if you know your football history, that season it was a two pronged reason for not relegating South, 1 was the leagues self preservation (openly not wanting to drop the leagues biggest supported club) and 2 the economic/board troubles sydney olympic was in at the time and the very real fear it was not able to take part the next season!

I thought it was over when victory scored first!
Nah. I thought if Olympic had a chance it was that game.

Victory didn’t have a full bench etc, lost half their squad blah blah

Not to take anything from kingsway. They came out to play and played awesome. Deserved it (pen was a bit iffy though! However they could’ve had one earlier) Was a really great game. Maybe the best I’ve seen in the cup from memory.

I have friends at that club, so was happy for them even if the result was against the team I follow.

Great scenes.

Stay on point. Was your previous carnation open to all the rest ? ( every season )
valid point he makes though mate.... "the big biys" have an artifical advantage, only fair that the wee little forgottten clubs at least get home crowd advantage... although your match in Tarneit last night seemd like it could be considered either/or...

That match last night would get football cancelled anywhere else in the world.

And from the last 32 draw, it should be an open draw. Before that i understand for the geographical issues.

More magic of the cup!
The round of 16 will have a minimum of 9 community clubs joined by a maximum 7 aleague sides.
In the event that a non-ALM side wins the whole thing, said club and the FFA must play hardball w/the AFC over its exorbitant BS criteria regarding eligibility for continental-competition; as most of us are prob aware by now, the AFC mandates that no semi-pro or amateur clubs are allowed to compete in the ACLs 1 and 2* (the latter being the rebranded AFC Cup) - which IMHO is a total crock.

*(There’s also now the 3rd-tier AFC Challenge League which does allow non-pro clubs to compete, but as 🇦🇺 isn’t one of the coefficient-aligned nations, there’s no tangible likelihood of a non-ALM winner of the AusCup being allowed to play in it)😔

If that for real about no semi-pro/amateurs in ACL1/2? FA have been spruiking for years that the Australia Cup is the pathway for any club in Australia to play in Asia!

Have they really, though❓

And to answer the question, yep it’s very much real - the inaugural edition of the ACL back in ‘03 was the only one in which non-pro clubs took part. Heck, the AFC reduces countries’ allocations on the back of one club’s poor showing - they’ve done it to us and they did it to 🇻🇳 in the past.
