The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

Absolutely no one has even hinted for
them to predict the future though - and i strugfle to see how you grt to that from what i wrote!!

For you, the secrecy, the half truths, the changes etc etc are all ok, for me and others though it is not (and we have explained why this is the case numeorus times)... They have more than fallen short by not announcing the h&a format with the 8 foundation clubs (if need be alone)! What i see is that they are looking to maintain an out and everything they say is just words unless we get the blueprint!

Ill remain a sceptic thanks, bc my history and interaction with them through my club is one of distrust with very good reason thus wont allow for anything else!

I would love to re-read - "A Genuine National Second Division of Football in Australia" from the AAFC Working Group but can't access it. My memory was that it put forward a 4 state minimum for home and away. My memory might be wrong - or I may have read it elsewhere. Can you get access to it through your club?

You mean like

This third NST RFP process was expanded to target clubs outside of the initial Expression of Interest process and predominantly from underrepresented States and Territories. At the conclusion of this process, Football Australia did not receive any fully compliant bid proposals but was encouraged with the prospect that additional clubs may be in a stronger position to join in the future.

The outcome of this NST RFP process reinforces Football Australia’s commitment to ensuring the competition is set up to succeed with strong clubs and an appropriate format and structure to provide a commercially appealing model for the NST, operating under the Australian Championship brand, to grow sustainably in the future.

...
Based on this and to allow any potential new stakeholders more time to meet the criteria, we will initially run the championship in its current format for 2 years, at which point we will revert to a full home and away season with 8 or more clubs.

End of announcement.

One thing that has me confused about the process is how do clubs not know what the financial criteria is

If you are submitting an rfp, surely you know ahead of submitting it whether you meet the financial criteria and wouldn't bother submitting a non-compliant bid. Unless there is no clarity on the financial criteria and the clubs don't know if they comply, perhaps because it is the will of a consulting firm rather than set criteria?

Yes and No - they have passed the technical but not the financial.
That's what I mean. Having KNOWN the EXACT CRITERIA as you said, they then submitted three times knowing they would fail because they KNOW the CRITERIA that don't meet? Not buying it mate.

*sorry for the caps, it's to emphasize the key words.

The reports into viability and feasibilty this was based on have long been removed from aafc website...

I suppose it depends on the relationship between the AAFC, the FA and the other clubs. If they fit all the other criteria it may be a case of "how can we help you meet the financial criteria in the next 2 years"

yeah I'm confused by this too (see above)

also the sources making serious allegations are pretty good and don't come down to a single person

People do seem to have valid reasons for concern here

In it I thought there was a commitment to a geographical spread of at least 4 states for the ongoing home and away competition.
Not what you're after, but I found these quotes from FA:

A National Second Division has the opportunity to create greater depth of fans around the country – by reaching new markets, be they geographic or demographic in nature.

Any further analysis of the National Second Division should consider this product mix, including the potential markets that it would seek to enter (both geographic and demographic) to maximise the potential footprint for football.

National Second Division should identify large geographic areas (including cities and towns) that do not currently have professional football teams. Where there is significant interest in football or a large participant base, thought should be given to including such geographic areas in the National Second Division.

What are the serious allegations. I am not close to any of the clubs and have heard no real allegations - just conjecture.

The AAFC model provides for:

A single national competition comprising 12-16 teams from the outset and reaching 16 teams as soon as possible;
Commitment from all participating clubs to a women’s team and commencement of a women’s competition from 2026;
Over 300 new elite playing and coaching positions;
All participating clubs must have grounds that can accommodate a minimum of 3,000 fans;
Teams to be included based on meeting stringent criteria as the basis for entry, followed by promotion and relegation from lower tiers. There are ten criteria to be met including in the areas of youth development, coaching standards, finance and facilities;
A $200,000 participation fee from each club;
A requirement for participating clubs to have a comprehensive women’s programme in place as a pre-requisite for participation in the NSD;
Alignment with the Domestic Match Calendar; and
Establishment of a Women’s Football, Marketing, and Youth and Coach Development Steering Committees.

I have the report ...

Can you upload anywhere mate?

These guys seemed to want to drive women's soccer more than FA and APL! Still no women's team for Macarthur or Auckland, still no women's Australia Cup which has been swept under the carpet quietly.

This is the 2021 progress report that was agreed/signed on by the clubs... this followed the original report by the AAFC but eas altered to make it more sustainable/feasible.

Ah yes, that's one I have. It's a thoroughly brilliant document, many things considered in there in great detail.

I'm still looking for the 2017 document, maybe it was never made public...

@HappyGuus , there are 2 other reports.. one from 2017 (the original) and one that came after the attached one which had some minor changes... im trying to find the final copy and will post it.
