Like others here before me, the idea of a combined Super Southern NPL is something that could be a good option to continue some momentum for the clubs and as a pressure tactic on the FA.
My suggestions are open to alteration based on clubs ability to participate but as an initial idea from interest for championship then follwoijg would be most logical.

7 teams NSW (Marconi, Olympic, Utd 58, Wollongong, Spirit, Apia, Rockdale)

5 teams Vic (South, Preston, Avondale, Bergers, Knights)

After initial trial then expansion on regular basis to include SA 2 teams!
For 14 teams.

26 rounds home and away building on local and interstate rivalries of traditional clubs.

No isse with this provided there is a set structure in palce to become a FULL P/R system irrespective of Geography once the full "compliment" of spots is achieved... Sure take 2-3 years to get a 16 or 18 teams spread based on Geography but after that it MUST be open slather otherwise doesn't make any sense for clubs like Georgies or West Adelaide etc etc.

By adding South East Queensland and South Australia while articulating the need for further growth you can turn what is essentially a glorified two city NPL into a competition that covers over 75% of the Australian population. i.e. close to 21 million people. A purely Sydney Melbourne comp caters for less than 40% of the population - slightly over 10 million people and gives the impression to the rest of the country that they needn't bother as the Sydney and Melbourne clubs won't want extra expense..

The full plan should be all states and territories, The back up plan should be the 4 state plan

Pat I think the guys are saying that the NRL DID just start off as a two state comp and then grew.... Im pretty sure we ALL want national representation for this comp... its just frustration and "plan B" thinking because the FA has gone radio silence on the issue.

I think FA should be paying for all flights and accommodation. They are for this upcoming tournament anyway.

But I guess if the league can't secure enough broadcast funding going forward, then yeah, it might have to be on the clubs to foot those costs.

I'd like to see it open up to a global audience, maybe free on YouTube for the first season, more eyes for sponsors to reach etc. Let's not lock it down from the start.

Football Australia should be looking to deepen the partnership with Qantas, it already covers the Socceroos, Matildas and the Australia Cup. Qantas as the major sponsors for the Championship covering all flights (and using their connections for accommodation) would be massive.

It would also open the way for WA teams to become viable.

Travel costs are not the thing holding WA teams back. FA has already indicated that travel costs would be covered by FA, just like they were with the A-League. Travel costs really aren't as expensive as people think they are. If you look back to when the FA ran the A-League, in 2019 the travel expenses for the A-League, W-League and Y-League combined was $3.8m. The Championship will be considerably less than that, especially when you consider there will be no international travel and less interstate travel as the many teams will be VIC/NSW based (at least initially).
 
I think the debate is that a WA team makes the league less financially viable/sustainable.

For example, in a 12 team NST of 5-NSW, 4-Vic, 2-QLD, 1-SA, just swapping out one of those Vic clubs for a WA team adds 50% to the travel costs. That's a huge dent, add just one WA team and it adds another half of all the travel costs of the entire league. It's literally cheaper having a team from Auckland in the league, (not Wellington though).

Unless a Perth club can add something to the league that justifies those costs, they're always going to be pushing sh!t uphill, unfortunately. The league would be better off leaving them out for now and waiting for entry to the NST on merit. Just talking with my finance hat on.

But I agree with you about the overall costs of travel. For what we're getting, an NST, it's peanuts for FA. Just farken DO IT!!

Just to add to this. I've done the numbers and tried to find the closest comparison on this and an NST.

For the same cost and number of matches of the 2018/19 A-League, W-League, and two conferences of Y-League, we could have a 16 team NST comprising of one team from each of Perth, Hobart, Canberra, Newcastle, two from Brisbane and Adelaide, three from Melbourne, and five from Sydney.

Or for half the cost (and about 60% of the number of matches) of the A-League, W-League, and Y-League, we could have a 14 team NST covering everywhere except Perth (one each from Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart, Newcastle, Canberra, four from Melbourne and five from Sydney). This would be a balanced base for the league to build from.

Note, my prices were from about two years ago, and the FA's numbers from 2018-19.

Any chances they will get rejected licencing issues etc? Adelaide Polonia in 2nd place would get far better crowds home & away or even 3rd place Beograd
