The UK is known for numerous ghost sightings and haunted locations, with many historic sites, castles and even villages reporting paranormal or supernatural activity. Some of the most famous include the Tower of London, Edinburgh Castle, Chillingham Castle, and Pluckley Village.
Chillingham Castle:
Considered one of the most haunted castles in England with hauntings by such apparitions as the "Blue Boy" who is often heard crying or making pained noises. Other notable spirits include Lady Mary Berkeley, whose rustling dress and cold presence are felt, and the White Pantry Ghost, a frail figure in white who appears in the Inner Pantry. Additionally, the castle's torture chamber and dungeon are said to be haunted by the ghost of John Sage, the castle's executioner.
Raynham Hall
What appears to be a gorgeous country house in Norfolk is actually one of the scariest haunted places in Europe. The hall is home to the mysterious Brown Lady, rumored to be Lady Dorothy Walpole, who died more than 300 years ago. Ever since her shadowy figure in a brown dress has been haunting everyone who dared to step into the Raynham Hall. One of them was even the King, George IV who stayed here in the 19th century. According to witnesses, he was seen leaving the house saying I will not pass another hour in this accursed house.

- The spectre of the highwayman hid in a tree at the Pinnock
- A phantom coach and horses has been seen in several locations around the village
- The ghost of a Gypsy woman who drowned in a stream at the Pinnock
- The miller has been seen at Mill Hill
- The hanging body of a schoolmaster in Dicky Buss’s Lane
- A colonel who hanged himself in Park Wood
- A man smothered by a wall of clay who drowned at the brickworks
- The Lady of Rose Court, who is said to have poisoned herself in despair over a love triangle
- The White Lady, a young woman apparently buried inside 7 coffins and an oak sarcophagus who haunts St Nicholas’s Church
- The Red Lady, reputedly a member of the Dering family who haunts the churchyard of St Nicholas’s Church. A small white dog has also been reported in the same location
Ancient Ram Inn.
The Ram Inn, located in Wotton-under-Edge, a market town in Gloucestershire, is famous for two things; being arguably the oldest B&B in the Western world and being one of the most mysterious haunted places in Europe. According to multiple sources, this structure was used as a pagan burial ground in the past. Several historical books also claim that devil worship and child-sacrificing rituals took place in the Ancient Ram Inn. This place is supposedly haunted by more than 20 spirits, including a murdered little girl named Rosie and a high priest.

In Brisbane there is the old Mill in Spring Hill where they used to hang convicts for ease. Meant to be one of our more frequently haunted locations. Certainly says so in the advertising material for the ghost tour anyway.
I did go to Dutton Park Cemetery late one evening to take some of my grandmonsters on one of the commercial ghost tours. Despite it being a dark and old cemetery, and the presenter did his best to instil a sense of uneasiness, it just didn't do anything for me. He had many stories of people who swore they had seen figures and the like including some regular ghostly visitors seen my numerous people over time.
Personally I have not got a belief in such things, but having said that...
My Grandmother lived in a house in Yeronga on the slightly uphill side of the first road next to the river. In the 74 floods, she had a dream that the flood waters would only rise to the second top step of her Queenslander so when the Fireys came to evacuate her she refused to go on those grounds. The flood waters only came up to the second top step.
When she was 21, my grandmother died of pneumonia and was revived. She was totally at peace and said that an angel had come for her. She never feared death after that because she knew an angel would come for her and all would be well.
My Nanna on the other side was on a road trip many years ago across the Nullabor. Long before mobile phones and the like. Three quarters of the way across she told Pa "Stop. We have to go back home. My sister just died." Her sister lived in NZ, was fit and well as far as anyone knew, and she died that day unexpectedly.
The last one, for now, is from the owner of an early Queensland sheep station my father stayed on when he was teaching. He was riding his horse along the old gravel roads early one evening and as he approached a narrow bridge he saw a man leaning on the railing looking out. As he approached and prepared to greet him there was no-one there.
All true stories - and still I have no belief in such things.

Had a colleague from Larne who said a dodgy overcoat man walked past him at 2am along a long alleyway. He looked over his shoulder a second later and he was gone. No doors or exits and a good 300m to go. Certainly, human memory is unreliable but a good quick yarn about such things.

Good stories too RIMB. I do believe as I had an unsettling incident in my early 20s when a live in girlfriend and I decided to kill some time on a winters day with some ouija board nonsence. As back then I was an unbeliever like RIMB. I digress. When I asked ''is there anybody here in this room with us' nothing, asked a second time, again nothing. Then as we were about to accept that this was all just a bad joke, the room was enveloped in a pocket of icey cold air. My g/f then screamed, saying something had touched her shoulder, then we saw the curtains move and the cold air vanished as quickly as it had arrived. Whatever presence we had encountered had left our warmed room thru a locked window.
I still have chills relating this story decades later.

Funny - I was going to include that after walking through the cemetery, I am always more unsettled walking through the bush after dark than through the haunted cemetery.
A retired airforce pilot told me a story about when he met his wife.
She was Indian and they were in a hotel room. He noticed that the aircon came on silently after a quiet click noise and it made a plant wave with the moving air.
So he told her he could do magic and that when he clicked his fingers he could make the plant move.
Coming from a culture of belief she fell for it and only found out years later that it had been faked.
I cannot comment on whether marrying him was good or bad for her, but the similarities to air con and moving curtains reminded me of it.

Call me crazy. I HATE cemeteries but if it's a military one, especially WW1, I'm alright.
My partners family in the German village if Wennigsen often say 'let's go for a walk via the cemetery, it's beautiful'. The place freaks me out.

Family house in Australia had some wind chimes my grandfather had made. Hung in same spot outside of house. Honestly hadn't heard them on any previous visits home but the most recent one before my parents sell up after 38 years, eating breakfast and they start chiming. Felt like he was trying to communicate with us.
Said to my mum, that's your dad signalling. She said 'I know'. She said she once had a cold shadow go up over here one night in bedroom. Like a spirit. You never know.
In first grade just after my grandfsther had died, a Chinese boy's sister had been born. 6 years later she starts at the school and I'm in year 6. She kept staring at me a lot in the playground. Reincarnation? Crazy as I'd considered it when she was born and then 6 years later had a little stalker. Don't ask my why I considered a grandparent being reincarnated when I was 6 years old. Guess I asked parents if the dead can return and the concept was mentioned.

Mentioned it a bit in game threads. Got new national team kit. Arrived in post and hour before Indonesia game. Chucked it on with tag still on. Decided to leave it on. We beat China too. I started writing the scores on it. Next window, we go and win both. That tag isn't coming off!

A teenage mate told me about this and swore it was true. He was walking home with another of our mates one evening when they saw a figure of a man lit clearly by the street lamps about 50 feet in front of them. The more they looked the more they became amazed that the figure was not so much walking but gliding. He and his mate froze when the figure crossed the road and with a brief flash of lite disappeared into the wall of a derelict building. When they told me I did not believe them and accused them of being on the grog. They replied ''no way, we were stone cold sober''.

I have a similar story related to superstition, but involving the Matildas and AFL instead. Started after the friendly against France in July 2023 where I claimed 'if the Matildas play and win at Marvel on the same day as a Melbourne Demons game, then the Dees will also win regardless of the venue'. Came true ever since and even after jumping ship and barracking for St Kilda it still holds somewhat true.
