Chronicles of a stable genius - all the biggliest stuff

this is actually a good thing that he's hauling Israel into line

there was obviously a theatrical plan where all parties were supposed to accept the outcome and have face saved, but the Israelis violated the agreement

You think they all sat in a room and talked about it doing it theatrically?

Imagine if the USA cut all ties, Israel would get hot under the collar pretty quickly. They'd still have a decent level of military but self sustaining is harder.

Seen some commentary about the fact that the US give Israel $10 million dollars a day in aid and that Israel has universal health care and the US don't.

This is similar to the relationship between the US and European NATO. Unlike the US most if not all European NATO nations have universal healthcare and very good welfare systems. Yet the US is by far the largest contributor per capita to the NATO coffers.

And in recent months we've seen a huge amount of belligerence on this issue by senior US politicians. Hence the recent NATO summit has seen many European nations announcing that they are going to increase their contributions to NATO in terms of defence spending.

America has another defacto forward operating base in the Middle East for the low price of 3 billion a year & why I say that because the Pentagon budget is 1 trillion. It's a bargain.

Makes sense.

There is zero correlation between America's NATO influence/contribution and their welfare/healthcare systems.

The few billion that America gives to NATO won't magically dissolve the private health insurance industry.
That wasn't my point.

A lot of the MAGA people have been deeply critical of European NATO's much smalller contribution in terms of GDP on defence spending.

For example Britain the second biggest spender after the US spends 2% and Germany, the third spends 1.9% of its GDP on defence, across the rest of the EU its around 1.3%....

The US 3.5%.

The MAGA people think that European NATO countries are free loading off the US whilst spending more money per capita on universal healthcare services and universal welfare services. This has caused much knashing of teeth within MAGA and the GOP in general.

You're right that it wont change their culture of healthcare or welfare services but it is changing European NATO's defence spending

This, you have to spend 5% of GDP is garbage in any case.

Spending for the sake of spending is idiotic. Look at the grief that's being caused by drones costing a few hundred bucks. But let's buy another 20 F35 jets so we can pump those numbers up and keep the mango happy, meanwhile a $200 drone with some explosives strapped to them can cause all sorts of havoc.

Agree.

The next world war, if it comes will be fought with drones and other similar hardware from a control centre in a bunker a thousand miles away from the actual battlefronts....

There will be some traditional military hardware required but it's mostly going to be done by modern varients of the current drone warfare seen in Ukraine and sophisticated military intelligence
