hahahahah nah man, we are absolute garbage these past 6 matches... seriously worse than in 2018 which saw us scrape out of relegation on GD on the last day... We haven't played anyone "strong" yet, we are gonna get pummelled against Avondale, Oakleigh, the Bergers... I wish NPL was like Aleague and we could just play Knights 3-4 times a season ......Like shooting fish in a barrel with you Hellas supporters.
a few losses and you've hit the panic button, saying relegation. FFS.
The board is playing 4D chess it seems, aiming to get us relegated so that we can play VPL1 next year with a reserves squad and focus on the real important stuff like them flying to Fiji and Vanuatu to work on their tans .....Esteban lost the playing group after the St Albans debacle resting so many players then told the youngsters they’ll never play for him again. What sort of coach does that? That’s why we haven’t seen Halfpenny since who was a decent squad player last season. Pope gives it a good crack in midfield but so many players have gone backwards and they’ve thrown the towel in. Just have a look at Jankovic’s efforts to run back last night as captain it wasn’t good enough.
Hopefully we have a replacement lined up because if its Minopoulos see you in VPL 1 next year
The NSD I was all for ... but not this Oceania garbage!!The board is playing 4D chess it seems, aiming to get us relegated so that we can play VPL1 next year with a reserves squad and focus on the real important stuff like them flying to Fiji and Vanuatu to work on their tans .....
Agree, saw Bonada sipping his Argentinian cocaine drink striding around the place almost laughing at our halia....Esteban lost the playing group after the St Albans debacle resting so many players then told the youngsters they’ll never play for him again. Can't argue against ANY of that. The writing was on the wall this season when Mesourouni Snr found a way to get his son into the senior squad again. A player not good enough for state 1 or 2 sides yet is taking up a spot in the squad. Even if he isn’t playing what message does that send to the squad who know full well his out his depth. Politics in a team aiming to be a second division side, laughable.
And mind you this is the same Mesourouni Snr who pushed CT out because he wouldn’t pick his own son.
Look at Preston and Oakleigh - see how hands on their board is. Bill Papa is at Malvern 3x a week and Mario spends most his time at Bentleigh Cobras. The board are all backseat corporates sitting back having Kafe at Melissa not giving a shit, whilst the Oceania Club of the Century name gets more and more tainted.
Oh and Leigh Minopoulos as assistant coach - no coaching CV, no record, nothing. Related to a board member, makes sense of course. Have him there as team manager fine, but assistant coach is shocking. Esteban is amongst the lowest paid coaches in the league and LM wouldn’t be on anything either. Penny pinching our way with state league level coaches and expecting to uphold the Oceania club of the century name.
3 grand finals losses especially whilst Oakleigh - a nothing team, a nothing club gets free publicity to keep winning trophy after trophy for their 5 fans. We let a championship winning coach go to them because of the ego of our own board.
The club needs a massive cleanup. Esteban is only scratching the surface for the issues at this club.
And Jankovic? He has lost the plot since that mistake he made against Victory. Gets himself sent off for nothing as well.Pretty much agree.. Drop off, from last year, of Archibald, Painter-Andrews and Lampard is remarkable ... never seen anything like it.
That why I say its not a squad or talent issue its a players not playing to what we have seen them play previously and KNOW they can. issue.. I mean we relied on Andy for 98 minutes last night.. They guy has the biggest football brain in the squad and a magic touch no doubting his desire or skill in any way but he is no longer a full match player .. last year he was dynamatie as an impact sub, this year he is starting 11???? WTF?... Im more and more convinced that Esteban has lost the dressing room and the board either doesnt care about this season or doesn't care full stop. And Jankovic? He has lost the plot since that mistake he made against Victory. Gets himself sent off for nothing as well.
Well said... spot on, on every point!!Can't really fault Jankovic IMO when the coaching is not up to snuff. At least Painter-Andrews looked betterish in Midfield than nothing. Our game plan that worked for the past few season of sitting back and letting opponents try their luck with long shots is over, it just doesn't work any more. We used to look really good when defending in transition, all 3 cbs and both wing backs holding their line tracking back, that was not present last game. A new coach should bring new tactics then we can re-assess individuals, its unfair to judge when tactically we are poor.
I have no issues with Brennan starting provided that he comes off around the 60th minute, again he has never been able to play full 90 however at a technical level he is one of our best players. Same goes for Moller, he shouldn't be starting A) considering he didn't play pre season B) he's just got good enough, he has shown of the bench he is a good player (scoring twice) he isn't suited to the hold man role considering his mobility, however he has shown flashes of being a good passer of the ball. Our midfield look over run at the worst of times we really need to stop using the 5 at the back formation, Lampard is often left to high up the ground and Evans shouldn't be starting (didn't play at all last season due to injury). Marco (and maybe Marshall) needs to be showing us why he is the captain he needs to rally the squad because god knows Quintas isn't doing it at the moment. Pope is showing flashes of brilliance however he is still very young and it shows (18 or 19 if I'm not mistaken), Archibald is showing his age and to much of him is being asked, that being playing in a 2 man midfield with Pope, Mells is fine I just don't know why he is rotting on the bench??? Mikkola is finally getting free kick foul calls this season, its just a shame we are so poor at set pieces, a player of his technical ability should have the squad playing around him, catering to his style of play. Harding is passable, glad he has actually scored proficient with the ball but not a match winner (which is fine). Bonada, who knows at this point? Leech? Give the poor guy a chance. Spiteri, Halfpenny and Inglese are serviceable young players who should be coming on but either aren't or frozen out of the squad. All the other youth players we signed look less than spectacular the most egregious being Mesourouni Jr... Pithloulas looks like serviceable 2nd choice keeper provided he isn't suspended. What happened to Marinkovic? Injured? I have seen his head around lakeside, he looked like a decent talent last season.
Good strike or not, last nights first goal was diabolical... we watched a player waltz through the midfield, physical stood still and WATCHED him waltz in, line up a strike, and nobody moved.... Your 100% right, we cant buy a goal going the other way but we seriously miss a Barcia type mongrel screening the CBs (and a Elmazi type before him) ... our defence USED to be ironclad just Lakeside USED to be a fortress....I think when we were at our organised best our midfield was a lot harder to play against, opposition teams would throw long balls at us or we would force them wide, all things that played into our hands as it would just be high balls coming into our box which suited our defenders.
Now sure the goal we copped against Hume and the 1st last night requires a good strike but teams are getting to the edge of our box easily now without us putting any pressure on. What we use to sacrifice in attack at least gave us that sound defensive shape. Thats gone now and we dont have any midfielders that can hurt the opposition going the other way. We actually dont have many goal scorers in this team. Gone are the days where Langlois would chip in with 9-10 goals, Schroen 6-7 etc. Last year was the Sawyer and Bonada show combining for close to 35 goals....all this is gone now.
Damn straight brother!!!!!!Can't really fault Jankovic IMO when the coaching is not up to snuff. At least Painter-Andrews looked betterish in Midfield than nothing. hahaha you made me spill my coffee...... My only consolation is that we will be fighting them for relegation by then...... lolWe are actually resting until June for the return match against Preston.
This better not be realGetting in before the "message" comes down from Olympus that we are going to rest 7 players away against Magic so that we dont get embarrassed the following week by the Bergers at home ....... fold the club we are a circus.
At this stage whether we are resting 7 or playing with the 7 there really is no difference .... my prediction is Mells remains on bench until he forgets how to pass as punishment for being accurate short distances when he should be bimbing it long!! Who is he to ruin the game play! This better not be real![]()
