The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

Have we got any idea if re when the fixture is released we’ll get any clarity on potential finals matchups between groups etc ? Or has that not been determined yet

..I’m looking for something to cling into here from a Marconi perspective (mind you I genuinely think both “foundation clubs” could fail to get out of that group given the way both clubs are coming into the comp lol)

No idea. You could find yourself into the same position as we were last year, where we had 9 regulars out. Just depends if they move on before the championship or not.

What a year it’s potentially shaping up to be for South Melbourne fans. Aus cup derby away win at Preston, now hosting an aus cup semi to potentially host the aus cup final v Melb victory or Sydney fc. Then big home and away ties v Sydney united for the first time in 20 years etc

If you offered them that before the season started I think theyd all have taken it

These are the games that keeps us relevant as a club and brings people through the gates. Nobody gives a rats about the npl. Dont even think we will get much of a crowd tomorrow being fathers day.

Spot on. Look at our crowds last year in the Australian Championship after a poor NPL run against teams many fans were not too aware of.

NPL is a good solid competition but the Australian Championship draws out the crowds and interest levels.

Have said before the npl in and of itself doesn’t hold a lot of importance, the thing which generates interest for the most part is it being the platform for matches between traditional clubs/traditional rivalries. Aus championship as it stands is that on steroids. Very few people want to watch traditional clubs play glorified friendlies with little consequence v suburban clubs. The aus cup is probably only comp/trophy available to non a league clubs which actually has any real importance
